About This Competition
Grab your gym partner and jump in the TRU Challenge!
TRU Challenge is for Intermediate and Novice athletes only.
If you compete in the RX or Elite divisions in other competitions or place in the top 10% of The Open or top 5% of your age group division in The Open, you are ineligible to compete in the TRU Challenge. If you choose to sign-up and we find out that you are, in fact ineligible, you will be disqualified and not be offered a refund.

Since 2011
TRU Challenge, formerly the Festivus Games, since 2011, is a competition for "the rest of us" - for the 95% of athletes who aren't pure-Rx firebreathers. No athlete, whether six months in or brand new, will need to scale any of the events. The competition is about capacity more than a high degree of skill. Everyone can row…just how fast? Everyone can deadlift..just how much?
Since the first competition with about 70 athletes Festivus Games has grown to over 17,000 athletes a year!
When you compete in the Festivus Games you can expect to be challenged but you can also expect to have a lot of fun. When you see the WODs you'll finally be able to say "I can do that!" With your boxmates, you will sweat, laugh, cheer and compete.

Workouts
Workout Score
The score is weight x reps completed. Example: 65# x 72 reps = 4,680
Workout Flow
The Athlete will load the bar before the workout starts. Once the workout starts, the weight may not change. Once the bar is loaded, Athletes will not be allowed to touch the bar in any way before the workout starts. At 3, 2, 1, Go! the Athlete will start doing back squats. The Athlete will perform as many back squats as possible in two minutes.
WOD Standards
Back Squat
Barbells will be on racks or stands so Athletes do not have to pick the bar up from the floor. The Athlete will load the bar before the workout starts. Each weight must be a minimum of 35#. You may not use weights smaller than 2.5#. At 3, 2, 1, Go! the Athlete may grip the bar, duck under, and position it properly across the shoulders or upper back. The Athlete will lift the bar, step back, and position feet as they wish for their reps. For each rep the hip crease MUST go below the top of the knee at the bottom and at the top the hip must reach full extension. The rep is not finished until the hip is fully extended at the top.
