About This Competition
This is a powerlifting competition to (re)unite powerlifting or weightlifting friends, crossfitters, strongmen and other strength athletes of all abilities from all over the world.
Besides this event you can also join The Big 2 competition (Weightlifting), to become the ultimate strength athlete....The Big 5.
Put your score on the leaderboard to compare your total with other athletes around the globe.
Test your strength and skills under competition pressure.
Qualify for an open international strength sport event in Europe (The Netherlands 7th and 8th november 2020).

M60+ (born in 1960, 1959, 1958, 1957 or 1956)
M65+ (born in 1955, 1954, 1953, 1952 or 1951)
M70+ (born in 1950 or earlier)

Subdivisions
Subdivisions for each bodyweight category. In this (powerlifting) competition we use the same bodyweight categories as for The Big 2 (weightlfiting). We added two bodyweight categories ONLY for youth: MY49 en FY40.
The 10 lifters with the highest total in each bodyweight category will be invited to the finals. In the divisions 35+ and higher the first 5 lifters will be invited.
Open to powerlifters, weightlifters, crossfitters, strongmen and athletes from all other sports.
Membership of a national federation is NOT obligated.
Wearing approved is NOT obligated.
This competition is a "classic" competition.
QUALIFIERS
The qualifiers is a serie of 6 workouts, spread over a period of 6 months. The qualifiers will be announced via:
1. The website: www.thebig523.com
3. Competition corner.
Athletes must do at least one workout and post the score on Competition Corner to be visual on the leaderboard. The highest total of the two lifts in one session will be on the leaderboard "total".

7th and 8th November 2020 in The Netherlands.
Because it is the first edition we need to have an indication about the amount of competitors. The location will be announced s soon as possible.
This competition is not linked to any governing body/federation and will not lead to any qualification exept for the finals of the Big 523.
NO refunds.
NO substitutes.
The organization has the right to refuse athletes on the main event without mentioning the reason.
JUDGING AND SCORES
Judging and scores are necessary to make a workout official. Athletes are responsible to post the score on time on Competition Corner and to make a video of the workout. Scores which are not complete will not be validated.
The judges of the organization are experienced officials; however they will not act on behalve of any federation or governing body. The organization has the right to validate scores or declare them invalid.
SCORE PROTOCOL - VIDEO RECORDING
There are three possibilities:
1. Good score: all lifts are executed in the right way. Judge gives "good lift". Score will be validated.
2. Partially good score: one or two lifts are judged as "no lift". The total will be corrected to the total of the "good lifts"
3. No score: all lifts are judged as "no lift". Score will be 0 (zero).
If there is a tie score within a subdivision the lifter with the lowest bodyweight is the winner.
There is no possibility for appeal on any decision. Athletes have six opportunities to set a good score.
VIDEO PROTOCOL
The video link copied in the score on Competition Corner must lead to a video shared as public on Youtube.
The recording must be unbroken and of reasonable quality.
Make sure your (background) music is royalty free because Youtube will remove your video.

Workouts

Each workout is a small individual powerlifting competition.
Maximum time of the workout: 30 minutes
1. Introduction.
Introduction of the athlete (name, age and category) and the equipment (squat rack, bench + rack for benchpress, digital weighing scale, timer, plates on barbell loaded for first attempt squat).
2. Weigh in
Athlete steps on weighing scale. After the weigh in the athlete can change outfit and shoes.
3. Squat
The athlete starts with the first attempt of the squat. When it is a good lift the automatic incease of the weight is one kg. If the athlete fails, the same weight can stay on the barbell. The second and third attempt will follow in the same sequence.
4. Benchpress and deadlift
Athletes can take a few minutes break before starting with the three attempts of the benchpress and deadlift in the same lifting order.
