About This Competition

Verona PBA Local 72 presents a Hillbilly inspired strongman event to raise money to benefit the Verona High School student weight room renovation. The Verona PBA Civic Association is a 501c3 charitable organization (TAX ID# 47-2282380).

  • Note: STUDENT coupon code must show student ID day of the event.

This event is open to ALL members of the community and ALL are encouraged to participate. This will be a TEAM COMPETITION. Each team will consist of THREE participants from the same division. We have four divisions: Alpha Men (Heavy), Bravo Men (Less Heavy), Charlie Women (Heavy), and Delta Women (Less Heavy) to accommodate those of varying strength and skill levels.

For those of you who are new to Strongman please take this opportunity to participate, learn and have fun. You may surprise yourself! For those of you who are familiar with Strongman, we hope you take this opportunity to be challenged, have fun and show others what you can do!

  • Saturday, May 13 th 2017 – Verona High School Parking Lot, 151 Fairview Avenue, Verona, NJ
  • RAIN OR SHINE EVENT – Bring chairs and pop-up style canopies as needed
  • Check in begins at 11:00 AM
  • Start time begins at 1:00 PM
  • NO ONE will be allowed to participate without a WAIVER
  • Belts, chalk, gloves, knee sleeves / wraps, and tape are allowed - nothing else is
  • Food and drinks will be available for purchase - proceeds will also benefit the Verona High School
  • Spectators and kids are welcome, but may not enter or interfere with the events
  • There will be restroom facilities for participants and spectators
  • To access the parking lot please take Grove Avenue to Sampson Drive (one-way)
  • On street parking available
  • Any competitor who conducts himself or herself in a disorderly, unprofessional or unsafe manner will be disqualified from the competition
  • No profane or obscene team names will be allowed
  • The judges and scorekeepers will strive to make this a fair competition for all participants
  • Please register for the division you believe will be fun, but still challenging.
  • Remember, the goal is to have a good time and raise funds for the Verona High School
  • Finally, NO REFUNDS
  • NO ALCOHOL 

2017 HILLBILLY STRONGMAN EVENTS

#1 - Hillbilly Load & Go

  • Team will position at starting line with an empty wheelbarrow.
  • One athlete at a time will run out and retrieve one item from the 100’ course, carry the item back to the starting line and load it into the wheelbarrow.  Items at 50’, 75’, 100’.
  • Once all three items are loaded, the team will move the wheelbarrow down the course, turn around the cone and return to the starting position.  If wheelbarrow tips over, you must reload and continue.
  • One athlete at a time will carry an item back its original position.  After all three items have been returned, and the last athlete crosses the starting line, time will stop.
  • Score = Time to complete course.

Alpha – 150# sandbag, 100# dummy, 100# chains 

Bravo – 100# sandbag, 80# heavy bag, 70# DB

Charlie – 75# sandbag, 50# heavy bag, 50# DB 

Delta – 50# sandbag, 45# bumper plate, 40# DB

#2 – Over Your Hay Bale

  • Max repetitions of shoulder to overhead in 90 seconds from rack.
  • Each repetition must go from shoulder to lockout position.
  • Press, Push Press, Push Jerk & Split Jerk are all acceptable.
  • Each athlete must complete at least one repetition.
  • Score = Total reps among team

Alpha – 135# steel log

Bravo – 95# Swiss bar

Charlie – 75# barbell

Delta – 45# barbell

#3 – Strongman Medley

  • Team will position at starting line with three implements – Farmer Carry, Prowler, Tire Flip.
  • Each athlete, one at a time, will move an implement to the other end of the 100’ course.
  • Once that athlete reaches the other side, the judge will signal for the next athlete to begin.
  • Once the third implement reaches the other side, the first athlete will move an implement back to the starting position.  Once that athlete reaches the starting position the judge will signal for the next athlete to begin.
  • Athletes cannot move the same implement twice.
  • Score = Time to complete course

Alpha - Farmer Carry 160# per hand, Prowler 220#, Tire Flip 350#.

Bravo - Farmer Carry 110# per hand, Prowler 160#, Tire Flip 200#

Charlie - Farmer Carry 50# per hand, Prowler 160#, Tire Flip 200#

Delta - Farmer Carry 30# per hand, Prowler 70#, Tire Flip 150#

#4 – Rapid Deployment

  • Team will move a vehicle across 100’ course or feet moved.
  • Two athletes will pull from the front and one will push from the rear.
  • Score = Time to complete course.

Alpha – Large Rapid Deployment / Rescue Truck

Bravo – Verona Police Rapid Deployment Truck

Charlie – Verona Police Ford Interceptor SUV

Delta – Verona Police Ford Interceptor Sedan

#5 – Mystery Event

  • Announced day of competition.
