About This Competition

We are BACK and excited to announce THE BOX THROWDOWN SAME SEX PAIRS COMPETITION at the Box Barnsley! 

CASH & PRIZES FOR PODIUMS! 

This competition is for intermediate and scaled athletes only. 

Our BOX THROWDOWN Same Sex Pairs is the perfect competition for athletes who are new to competing and athletes who would categorised themselves intemediate level! 

INTERMEDIATE & SCALED MALE AND FEMALES PAIRS

Date: SUNDAY 28th SEPTEMBER 2025. 

Location: UNIT C4, Shawfield Road, Barnsley, S71 3HS

 

Cost: The price per team is £85 + booking & processing fees.

Total price per team is £90.40  Tickets are non-refundable.

Movement Standards

All intermediate athletes should be able to do the following:

Both athletes don't need to be able to do all movement standards*

Intermediate Standards:

  • Beginner to experienced
  • Some open workouts scaled and some RX
  • Can perform all basic CrossFit movements 

Intermediate Gymnastics:

  • Chest to Bar Pullups
  • Toes to Bar
  • Double Unders
  • Walking Lunges weighted

Intermediate Barbell:

  • Snatch 60/40
  • Clean 60/40
  • Deadlift 115/85

All Scaled athletes should be able to do the following:

Scaled Standards:

  • Beginner, first time, or newer competitior
  • Most open workouts scaled
  • Can perform all basic Crossfit movements
  • Able to run, row, bike, jump without injury

Scaled Gymnastics:

  • Hanging Knee Tuck
  • Box Jumps/Step Ups
  • Wall Balls
  • Single Unders
  • Walking Lunges weighted

Scaled Barbell:

  • Snatch 50/35
  • Clean 50/35
  • Deadlift 85/55

Workouts

Goal: Complete as many reps as possible in 10 minutes.
Score: Total reps completed.

Athletes must complete the following, as many rounds/reps as possible in 10 minutes:

AMRAP 10

10 Synchronised Burpees over the Hurdle
20 Wall balls (split)
30 Toes-To-Bar/Knee Raises 

40 Dumbbell Deadlifts (split)
30 Dumbbell Shoulder-To-Overhead (split)
20 Wall Balls (split)

Weights: Intermediate: 2 × 22.5/15kg | Scaled: 2 × 15/10kg

 

 

Standards:

Synchro Burpees Over Hurdle:

Both athletes’ chest to floor synchronised.
1 Athlete must then jump the hurdle first, once both feet are on the floor the other side, athlete 2 can jump over the hurdle. 

Intermediate: Two foot take off and landing over the hurdle 

Scale: Step over hurdle allowed 

Rep only counts if both athletes are on the floor at the same time.

 

Wall Balls:

Squat below parallel, ball hits target at required height.

Toes-to-Bar / Knee Raises:

T2B: Both feet touch bar at same time, inside hands.
Knee Raises: Knees clearly pass hip crease.

Dumbbell Deadlifts:

One head of the dumbbell is allowed to touch the floor.
Hips + knees fully extended at the top of the rep.

Dumbbell Shoulder-to-Overhead

Any style allowed: strict press, push press, push jerk.
DBs must start at shoulders and finish locked out overhead with hips, knees, and arms fully extended.

 

EMOM 11

Minute 1. 20 Synchro Box Step Overs

Minute 2. 20/16 cal Row 

Minute 3. Max Front Squats @60kg /40kg or Scaled 40/30kg 

Minute 4. REST

Goal: Accumulate as many total reps as possible across 3 rounds (all reps added together).

Structure: 
The workout runs for 4 minutes per round.
To progress, pairs must complete each minute’s buy-in.
If a pair fails to complete the buy-in for that minute, they are eliminated from that round.
Score = total reps from all 3 rounds combined.

Breakdown

Minute 1: Synchronised Work

Both athletes complete 20 synchronised box step overs

(Intermediate:  Share 1 Dumbbell (1 X 22.5kg / 15 kg),

Scaled: bodyweight).

Must be completed in sync to advance.
Reps count toward total score.

 

Minute 2: Split Work

20/16 cal row (pairs split as needed).
Must be completed before moving to next minute.
Calories count as reps.

 

Minute 3: Split Work

Max effort front squats (one works, one rests, switch as needed).
All squats completed = reps added to score.

Weights:

Intermediate: 60kg/40kg 

Scaled: 40kg/30kg

 

Minute 4: REST

 

 

Standards

Step Overs: Synchro at the top of the box
Row calories: Monitor must show target calories before advancing.
Front squats: Hip crease below parallel, full lockout at the top.

 

Workout 3A - LIFT 

In a 5 Minute Window: 

1 Athlete completes - MAX Clean 

1 Athlete completes - MAX Clean and Jerk 

Combined Scores

20 Thruster 40/30kg for intermediate & 30/20kg for scaled
