About This Competition

Proving Grounds UK is a same sex pair fitness competition.

Online qualifiers will be released on Monday 10th of July and need to be completed by midnight, Friday 11th of August 2023.

The top teams from each category will qualify to go onto the finals held on the 21st and 22nd of October 2023 at the SEC Glasgow.

Day 1 (Saturday 21st of Oct) will see our Everyday athletes & Masters take the competition floor. 

Day 2 (Sunday 22nd of Oct) will see our Intermediate and RX athletes take the competition floor. 

The number of qualifying teams will be subject to change.

Athletes wishing to spectate on the day they aren't competing will need to purchase a spectator ticket. 

Category selection guideline

Everyday Athlete

This division is for those who love functional fitness style training. You have been practicing for a few months or years and are still working on perfecting some of the common functional movements.

This category is all about enjoying competition and working out along side your buddy. This is either your first competition or you have participated in some local/box competitions. You were able to participate in the Open 2023 with a mixture of scaled and RX finishes.

Intermediate Athlete

Designed for those who enjoy training however may struggle with some of the more high-skill and technical movements. You were able to complete the open 2023 RX and were close to qualifying for the quarterfinals.

If you love competition but aren’t quite ready to hit the RX category yet, then this category is for you.

RX Athlete

This is for competitive athletes! You love training, love competing and want to throw down with the best there is.

If you were able to complete the Open 2023 RX and have managed to progress to the upcoming quarterfinals/semi’s/Games this is the division for you.

Masters (Combined age 75+)

This category is designed for any athletes who meet the below age requirements

Athletes must be 35+ years old on the date of competition
The teams combined age must be 75+ years

You can expect the Masters category to be a mix between the Intermediate and RX competition.

Teens (16 or under) 

This is our first year hosting the teen's category and we are super excited to be able to introduce this division to the Scottish fitness stage! 

Our teens cateogry is open to anyone 16 or under. The qualifiers will be aimmed at 13 to 16 year olds. However, if you think you have what it takes and want to give them a go we aren't limiting the ages that can sign up.

The minimum movement standards to help you decide if you should give the qualifers a go are: 

GTOH 35kg/ 25kg 

Pull ups 

Double unders

DB work - 15kg / 10kg 

24/20inch box jump/step overs 

Deadlift (60/42.5) 

Video submission – Scoring Protocol

Please ensure you have completed the workout correctly and upheld the movements to the highest possible standards.

There are four possible outcomes in the judging and scoring of the video submissions:

• Good Video: The athletes meet the required movement standards on all repetitions in the workout, and the score they posted is correct. Their score will be accepted.

• Valid with Minor Penalty: Over the course of the video, the athletes demonstrate a small number of “no-reps” that may be removed from their final score as required. If the score is posted in the form of a time, the total time to complete the workout will be adjusted accordingly.

• Valid with Major Penalty: Over the course of the video, the athletes demonstrate a large number of “no-reps.” In this case, the score may be modified by subtracting 15 percent from the total rep count. If the score is posted in the form of a time, the total time to complete the workout will be adjusted accordingly.

• Invalid: Over the course of the video, the athletes fail to complete the workout as required, a significant and unacceptable number of reps performed are “no-reps” or the video does not contain the criteria listed in the video submission standards. The teams score will be rejected.

Partner Substitution - An athlete can be changed at any point up until the qualifier deadline.  Both partners must complete ALL qualifiers.  After this there may be no substitutes under any circumstances.
