Kotahi Taua 2026
About This Competition
Kōtahi Taua is a 5-week Friday night team competition. Teams go head-to-head across multiple workouts (total number of workouts subject to change).
Team Format
6 athletes per team
3 tāne + 3 wāhine
2–4 athletes compete per workout
Rotate athletes based on strengths
No outside athletes allowed
Judging (non-negotiable):
Every team must provide 1 judge each week
This does not need to be a team member
Can be a friend, coach, or supporter
No judge = score = zero for that workout
Competition Flow
Te Whakamātau — The Trial (Weeks 1–2)
Week 1 → Double header (2 scored workouts)
Week 2 → Single workout
3 workouts. One purpose: rank every team.
After Week 2:
Scores reset
Teams split into 2 divisions
Divisions
Te Tihi o te Maunga (The Summit) – top tier
Te Pākai Whawhai (The Battle Pack) – chasing, capable, dangerous
Each division runs its own leaderboard and title.
Weeks 3–4 → Division Battles
Week 3 → Single workout
Week 4 → Double header
You face teams in your division. Points decide finals spots.
Week 5 → Finals Night
Top teams from each division qualify (format TBC)
Scores reset again
Finals decided on the night
No carry-over. Perform or miss out.
Scoring System
Points-based (higher = better)
Sliding scale per workout:1st = 100 pts
2nd = 95 pts
3rd = 90 pts
Score resets:
After Week 2 (post-grading)
Before Finals (Week 5)

No scaling. No substitutions.
If a rep doesn’t meet standard, it doesn’t count.

By registering for and participating in Kōtahi Taua 2026, all athletes acknowledge and agree to the following:
You understand that participation in functional fitness competition involves inherent risks, including but not limited to:Physical injury (minor or serious)
Muscle strain, joint injury, or fatigue-related incidents
Equipment-related accidents
Collisions or contact with other athletes or equipment
You confirm that you are voluntarily participating and accept full responsibility for your own safety.
You accept responsibility for:Your own actions during training and competition
Ensuring you are physically prepared to compete
Being aware of your limits and communicating them to your team when needed
You acknowledge that:You are responsible for the safety of yourself and those around you while competing
Competition environments involve unpredictable elements, including other athletes competing in close proximity
Organisers, judges, volunteers, and venue partners are not liable for any injury, loss, or damage sustained during the event, except where required by law
By entering, you agree to release and hold harmless the organisers from any claims arising from participation, including those resulting from negligence to the extent permitted under New Zealand law.
REFUND POLICY
1. No Refunds
All registrations for Kōtahi Taua 2026 are final.
There are no refunds for:
Withdrawal
Change of mind
Injury or illness
Scheduling conflicts
Team changes or availability issues
2. Team Transfers / On-Selling
Teams may transfer or on-sell their entry if they are no longer able to compete.
All replacement athletes must meet event eligibility and movement standards
Any team changes must be confirmed with organisers at least 48 hours before Week 1
We can assist in helping you find a replacement team where possible—just reach out early
3. Event Cancellation (by organisers)
If the event is cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances (for example: venue issues, government restrictions, or other force majeure events):
Teams will be offered one of the following:
Transfer to a rescheduled date, or
A full refund if a new date cannot be arranged
