The Summer THROWDOWN
About This Competition
We are proud to introduce THROW↓™, an all-new functional fitness competition set to take the UK by storm!
COMPETION FORMAT
The competition will run across 2 days – Saturday and Sunday, with each category competing on EITHER Saturday or Sunday.
All athletes will compete in Pairs of either males, females, or a mixed pair.
There will be 2 divisions for each of the 3 pair categories:
- THROWDOWN – Standard Rx weights and reps from expected in equivalent competitions. There will be NO RIG and NO COMPLEX MOVEMENTS (eg snatch, hs walk, double unders etc.)
- MASTERS - As above, but pair’s age must come to a combined total of 80+ with both athletes at least 35 years of age
There will be 6 competitions in total –
- THROWDOWN Males
- THROWDOWN Females
- THROWDOWN Mixed
- MASTERS Males
- MASTERS Females
- MASTERS Mixed
There are no qualifiers for this event, you simply need to grab a partner and SIGN UP! Places will be first come first served.
Each event will comprise of 4 workouts testing each of our core components, STRENGTH, STAMINA, POWER, and GRIT.
Each category will be awarded prizes from our sponsors.
Workouts will be accessible containing no high skill gymnastics or complex movements to ensure the highest level of participation.
WHERE AND WHEN?
The event will take place at the fantastic National Indoor Athletics Centre in Cardiff, South Wales.
NIAC (National Indoor Athletics Centre) at Cardiff Met was the first purpose built indoor athletics track in the UK.
NIAC offers:
- Full competition 200m banked track
- 9 lane 60m straight
- Separate 6 lane 140m straight
- 3 full sized basketball courts (competition floor)
- The facility is fully equipped to international standard and has a seating capacity for 690 spectators.
- Parking is available on site (pay and display)

ATHLETE EXPERIENCE
EXAMPLE COMPETITION DAY SCHEDULE:
- 7:30 – 8:00AM Athlete Check In
- 8:15AM – 8:45AM Athlete Breifing
- 9:00AM – Workout 1 (STRENGTH)
- 10:30AM – Workout 2 (STAMINA)
- 1:30pm – Workout 3 (POWER)
- 3:00pm - Workout 4 (GRIT)
- 5:30pm – PRIZE Presentation
WHAT IS INCLUDED
The competition fee is £125 per team, this price includes:
- 4 Workouts
- Limited Edition Event T-Shirt

- Sponsor Prizes for podium finishers and workout winners
IMPORTANT INFO
- Workouts will be released the week before the event via social media.
- Substitutes can be made up until the time of athlete registration.
- No refunds will be given but team places can be transferred to another team in the event of withdrawl as long as this is done no later than Monday 1st August at 11pm.
- There will be no rig at the event

Workouts
Event 1 - STRENGTH 3RM Deadlift Ladder
Male weights 110-200kg
Female weights 75-140kg Flow
This will be done as an EMOM where each team will get the full minute to complete their set.
The set must be completed within the minute - lifts started but not completed in the 60s window will not count.
Only one athlete can lift at a time and the non lifting partner must remain behind the line while there partner lifts.
If your partner misses a weight but you make it, you can continue without them.
Score is the total combined weight lifted

On 3/2/1 go each partner will advance to their movement P1 completes 21 cal row while P2 completes 21 thrusters they then swap so P1 completes 15 thrusters while P2 completes 15 cal row etc. until the 9s are completed
On completion of the 9s the pair will advance to the sandbag(s) and complete 20 sandbag over shoulder ygig
They will then return to the kit to complete 9/15/21 reps to finish.
Event 3 - POWER

On 3/2/1 go both partners will drop to the floor and P1 will complete their shuttle sprint and return to the box to complete 12 burpee box jump overs, on completion of the 12 rep they will return to the start line and drop to release partner 2.
This format will continue until both partners have completed all 4 sets and they will move to the Dumbbells to complete as many synchro alternating DB snatches as possible in the remaining time.
Event 2 - STAMINA

Partner completes 200m run
*once both the row and run are complete the pair will complete 5 line facing burpees and swap.
Flow
On 3/2/1 go both partners will start their movement.
Partner 1 will get in the rower and start, partner 2 will run to the end of the lane and left before completing a lap of the track.
Once both partners have completed their work they will complete 5 line facing burpees and swap.
The running partner will move the marker up one line before starting their run for round 2.
