About This Competition

Islander Athletics: The Deca Gauntlet

The Deca Gauntlet is a year-long fitness competition built around consistency, community, and proving your fitness over time.

Consisting of 10 workouts spread across the year and culminating during the 2027 CrossFit Open, athletes will test themselves across a wide range of movements, conditioning, strength, skill, and grit. Each workout is designed to be accessible to all levels while still challenging the most competitive athletes in the gym.

The Deca Gauntlet is more than just a leaderboard. While fitness performance matters, the biggest emphasis is participation, community involvement, and showing up for your fellow athletes.

Workout Description
The Deca Gauntlet opens with a fast-paced sprint that tests conditioning, grip endurance, pacing, and mental toughness.

Athletes will move through ascending and descending reps while alternating between explosive shuttle work and single-arm dumbbell hang cleans. Expect elevated heart rates early, with the challenge becoming managing fatigue and maintaining movement quality as the reps climb.

The burpee shuttle runs will force athletes to repeatedly get up and down while covering distance, creating a constant metabolic demand throughout the workout. The single-arm hang cleans reward efficient cycling, smart transitions, and grip management under fatigue.

Workout 1 is designed to be accessible to all levels while still rewarding athletes who can move aggressively and recover quickly.

Week 1 Theme:
