Vertex Sun Challenge 2023

Start Date: Friday, 12/8/2023 (Annex Open late!)
End Date: Saturday, 12/23/2023, scores due by 8PM


Other Details:

  1. All gyms welcome to participate
  2. Four CrossFit Open style workouts
    1. Do the workouts during Open Gyms
    2. Judge required (explained below)
    3. 16 days to do four workouts
  3. Several different Divisions (RX, Masters, Scaled)
    1. See Divisions below
  4. Nominal entry fee
  5. Prizes only, I'll post an image of what's available
  6. Separate podiums for all divisions

Judges:


Anyone involved in the competition can judge. That means our coaches can judge, other competitors, etc. If you're from another gym, grab a coach at your gym to judge you. Or come to Vertex during one of our Open Gyms and I'll judge you. Drop-in fee will be waived.


This is for fun but please hold the standard. We'll release standards for each workout. They'll be typical CrossFit Open standards.

Standards

  1. Kettlebell Swing: 
    1. At the bottom of the movement, any point of the kettlebell must be lower than the hips. 
    2. At the top of the movement, the handle of the kettlebell must break the plane of the midline of the body when above the top of the head.  At that point the elbows must be fully extended. 
  2. General CrossFit Open/Regionals/Games standards for the following:
    1. Toe to Bar
    2. Knee Raises
    3. Front Squat

Standards

  1. Assault Bike:  The Assault Bike monitor must be reset to zero before each round.  The athlete can seek assistance to reset the monitor.
  2. Bar-facing Burpees:  Adhere to CrossFit Open Standards for two-foot take and any foot landing.  Any barbell can be used.  Collars must be used to secure the plates to the barbell.  Greater than or equal to 15# plates must be used.

Standards

  1. General CrossFit Open/Regionals/Games standards for the following:
    1. Deadlift
    2. Wall-ball Shots
  2. DB Bench:
    1. Two Dumbbells.  The lift starts at the top.  You can receive assistance to get the dumbbells to the top (e.g. spot on the elbows).  Getting the Dumbbells to the top (elbows extended) does not count as a rep
    2. Bottom:  Dumbbells touch the chest (the dumbbell, not your hand, wrist, arm, etc.)
    3. To complete a rep, both elbows must be fully locked out, with the dumbbells in line with the pectorals (not over your face, not over your abdomen)
    4. Glutes can come off the bench pad during a rep
    5. Feet must remain on the floor.  45# plates or lower can be used under the feet as a riser.  You cannot stack plates on top of one another.  
    6. A dropped dumbbell will result in a no-rep
  3. Ski Cals:  reset the monitor each round, athletes can receive assistance when resetting the monitor

    1. Box Jump/Step-over (two-foot take-off, two feet touch top of box, hands/arms do not touch top of box, mandatory step down on the other side)
    2. Row

    4. Chin-over-bar Pull-up
  2. Ring-row: Set bottom of rings to hip height, hips under pull-up bar, hip explosion/kipping is allowed
  3. Row:  Athletes can receive assistance to turn on the monitor

  1. Row:  worth 2 reps, halfway and the finish
