More about Camp Ooch:
A diagnosis of childhood cancer is a big, scary, sudden swerve in the road, changing life in an instant. For affected families, it can feel like everything is about cancer. Simple, childhood joys like friendships, birthday parties, or sports teams are left behind in the need for medical appointments, hospital stays, and long absences from school. For over 35 years, Camp Ooch has offered a different path – the healing power of fun, friendship and self-confidence, and the joy of kids getting to just be kids!
Camp Ooch is a privately funded, volunteer-based organization that provides kids with and affected by childhood cancer with unique opportunities for growth through challenging, fun, enriching and magical experiences. Ooch is committed to upholding our promise that no child with or affected by cancer is ever turned away from transformational camp experiences, yet demand for our programs increases every year.
There are still more than 2,400 kids with cancer in Ontario who don’t access an oncology camp. Our goal is to access every child diagnosed with paediatric cancer in Toronto and the rest of Ontario.
Ooch is much more than a summer camp. Ooch is the only overnight camp in Ontario to offer onsite IV chemotherapy treatment and blood transfusions. Ooch also offers year-round programs at seven paediatric hospitals across Ontario and in the communities of Toronto, London, Hamilton and Ottawa. Through these programs, Ooch serves over 1,500 children with and affected by childhood cancer each year with a focus on survivorship, skill development, friendship and fun, at no cost to their families. This is possible because of the generous support of donors and volunteers.
