Just a quick FYI - We've rebranded I AM > I WAS to the Northeast Fitness Classic.  The event will take place on Saturday, 8/26/2023.  Stay up to date by checking the following page:  NEFC 2023 (I AM > I WAS)

Details:

  • Format:  Partner competition, two person teams (one female, one male)
  • Divisions: RX, Intermediate, and Scaled
  • Events: Guaranteed four workouts, listed below, subject to change


Prizes:

  • First Place RX - $500 Cash*
  • First Place Intermediate - $400 Cash*
  • First Place Scaled - $300 worth of prizes/swag/gift-cards*

*Cash and prizes based on participation - less teams, less prize money

 

Rower Giveaway:

Each team gets two tickets for the Concept2 Rower Giveaway!  Bring your truck or SUV if you want to take this bad boy home.

Additional tickets can be purchased for $25.00.

  • We will live stream the entire event on our Facebook and YouTube Pages
  • Early sign-ups get the best lane slots for Live Stream viewing

 

Additional Details:

  • Waivers: All participants must have a waiver on file with CrossFit Vertex. If you don't, come early (the doors will be open).  Teen athletes require a legal guardian to sign the waiver

FAQs:

1. Who should I contact for more information?
You can reach out to the competition team by emailing crossfitvertex@gmail.com, sending a personal message to the CrossFit Vertex Facebook Page, or posting questions on the official Facebook Event Page

2. Will athletes be alerted when workouts change? When will the workouts be finalized?
Yes, athletes will be alerted of workout changes via the official Facebook Event Page. The workouts finalize on the day of the competition. Final workout hints will be distributed between now and the competition start date.

3. Is there a spectator fee?
There is no spectator fee. All spectators are welcome.

4. What should I bring?
Bring everything you'll need for the day, including fuel and something to sit on. We will have grab-n-go items available.

5. Where do we park?
Please utilize all parking lots in front of the CrossFit Vertex buildings.

6. May I bring my pet?
As much as we would like to allow pets, we must maintain a safe environment. Please leave pets at home. Service animals are always allowed.

7 Are children allowed?
Yes, children are allowed but they must be supervised by a parent or legal guardian at all times.

8. Where will the athletes warm up and camp out?
We will open the CrossFit Vertex Annex Gym for warming up. The Main Gym perimeters will be used as an athlete hang out area. If the weather is nice, we will utilize the parking lot as well.

  • Athletes must declare BMU or C2B before the workout begins, both athletes must do the same movement.  Once the workout begins the athletes' movement choice cannot be changed
  • Both athletes hold bar on Tandem Deadlifts and achieve lockout at the same time
  • Synchro Wall-ball - athletes below parallel together
  • Synchro Sandbag Box Overs - athletes are on the same side of the box and have both feet and the sandbag on the ground together
  • Both feet must touch top of box on sandbag overs
  • Sandbag must traverse the box by any means - push it over, pull it over, toss it over (safely), hold on body and step over
  • Synchro BMU - athletes locked out together, athletes must be on the same side of the rig

  • We will have a contingency for the run if it's pouring rain.  However, we may run in a drizzle (the workout contains a loaded lunge, safety must be maintained)  
  • The run course is all paved.  There may be a loose pebble here and there
  • The lunge is down and back, each length will be broken into four segments, fail within a segment and return back to the start of the segment
  • The lunge dumbbells can be held on or above the shoulders as the athlete sees fit
  • Athletes cannot drop dumbbells

Workout Example:

Staggered Relay, Partner 2 can start the run once Partner 1 passes the 500M mark, To begin the bike, Partner 2 must wait for Partner 1 to complete the bike.  To begin the lunge, Partner 2 must wait for Partner 1 to complete the lunge

  1. Partner 1 runs first
  2. Partner 1 reaches the 500M mark and Partner 2 begins the run
  3. Partner 1 completes run and begins bike immediately
  4. Partner 2 completes the run but Partner 1 is still biking.  Partner 2 waits
  5. Partner 1 completes the bike and starts the lunge, Partner 2 starts the bike
  6. Partner 2 completes the bike but Partner 1 is still lunging.  Partner 2 waits
  7. Partner 1 completes the lunge, Partner 2 starts the lunge
