THE APE GAMES 2026
The APE GAMES 2026 is one of three core competitions that make up the APE TRINITY SERIES — a year-long competitive structure designed to identify the most complete athlete in the APE community.
This is not just a standalone event.
This is one part of a bigger system.

Entry and Check in
CHECK-IN
-Check-in begins at 8:00 AM
-A check-in booth will be located in the lobby in front of the main entry doors to Hall B
-All competitors MUST check in at the booth BEFORE entering the competition hall
Recommendation: Arrive at least 1 hour before your scheduled heat time
COMPETITION START TIME
Competition begins at 10:00 AM
ENTRY
Competitors are allowed inside the hall starting at 8:00 AM
IMPORTANT – COMPETITORS READ
-ALL competitors MUST check in at least 1 hour BEFORE their assigned heat time
-Final schedule may change until registration closes on August 26th
-Final heat times will be printed on competitor wristbands
-Competitors MUST follow the EXACT time listed on their wristband
-This event runs on a strict schedule
-There will be NO delays and NO waiting for athletes
WARM-UP GUIDELINE
Athletes should be in the warm-up area at least 30 minutes before their heat time
SPECTATOR INFORMATION
Spectators are allowed entry starting at 10:00 AM

EVENT FORMAT OVERVIEW
The competition consists of 3 events, each targeting a different performance system:
Event 1: Work capacity + movement under fatigue
Event 2: Strength + barbell cycling
Event 3: Engine + muscular endurance
Athletes will rotate through events in assigned heats, ensuring a smooth and organized competition flow.

SCORING SYSTEM
Each athlete or team earns a score per event.
How scoring works:
Events are ranked based on performance:
Fastest time = best score
Most reps (if time cap) = best score
Point System:
1st place = 100 point
2nd place = 90 points
3rd place = 80 points
etc.

COMPETITION DAY
Two days. Two stages. One unforgettable competition.
Day 1 – Saturday | OPEN Divisions
Saturday features all OPEN divisions for both male and female athletes:
CUB (Beginner)
CHIMP (Intermediate)
GORILLA (Advanced)
Athletes will battle it out across all events, with the awards ceremony taking place at the end of the day to crown the top competitors in each division.
Day 2 – Sunday | EPIC Divisions
Sunday brings the EPIC divisions to the floor:
JUNIORS
MASTERS
TEAMS (Female/Female, Male/Male, Co-Ed)
These divisions showcase the next generation, seasoned competitors, and dynamic team formats. The day wraps up with a separate awards ceremony honoring all EPIC division athletes.

THE APE TRINITY SERIES
The Trinity is earned by winning all three distinct competitions, each testing a different side of performance:
1. THE APE GAMES (This event is the FIRST of 2026-2027 Series)
Focus: Work Capacity + Mixed Modal Performance
Running, carries, barbell, engine work
2. APE STRONGMAN
Focus: Absolute Strength + Odd Object Power
Heavy carries, sleds, stones, max effort work
3. APE METCON
Focus: Conditioning + High Output Engine
Fast-paced, high-rep, endurance-based workouts

HOW TO QUALIFY
To be eligible for Trinity awards, an athlete must:
Win all 3 competitions:
-The APE Games
-APE Strongman
-APE Metcon
- Compete in the same division across all events
- Complete all three competitions within the same competition cycle (August through January)
TRINITY CASH PRIZE
Top Trinity athletes will receive:
Cash Prize Pool (TBD per season)
Awarded to top overall finishers per division
Prize pool increases based on participation and sponsorships

EVENT 1 — THE TREK
FORMAT
For Time
Continuous effort
Score = total time to complete
EVENT FLOW
Start: Athlete stands next to an empty sled, at start line.
On “GO”: Run 50 meters to the sandbag
Carry sandbag back 50 meters and load it onto the sled at the start line
Continue: Run 50 meters to the kettlebells
Carry both kettlebells back 50 meters and load them onto the sled
Sled Push: Push loaded sled 50 meters to the far line
Unload Phase:Unload equipment in any order
and carry each element back 50 meters to the start position.
*Kettlebells must be taken together in a farmer carry fashion.
Finish:Run 50 meters back to the far line/end line.
Event ends when athlete fully crosses the start line next to the empty sled
MOVEMENT STANDARDS
Running
-Athlete must clearly cross each 50-meter line with both feet and hips
-No cutting distance
-Athlete must remain in assigned lane
Sandbag Carry
-Sandbag must be carried; dragging is not allowed
-Acceptable positions:Front hold, Shoulder carry, Bear hug
-Sandbag must be placed fully across the line or onto sled across the line. If any equipment moves inside the runing space it must be push to the outside before continuing.
-If dropped, athlete must resume from where it lands
Kettlebell Carry
-One kettlebell in each hand (farmer carry fashion)
-Must be carried at the athlete’s side
-Front rack or shoulder carry is not allowed
-If dropped: Must be picked up from the same spot
-Both kettlebells must be carried together when moving forward
Sled Load
-All implements must be fully placed on the sled, either as they arrive or together before starting the push.
-No part of the equipment may hang off or drag
-Athlete may not push sled until all required equipment is loaded
Sled Push
-Sled must be pushed the full 50 meters
-Hands must remain on sled while moving. Athlete may reset if sled stops
-Pulling the sled is not allowed
-If any items falls during the course of the 50m push, athlete must reset it on the sled before continuing
-Entire loaded sled must cross the 50-meter line
Sled Unload
-It is not required to unload kettlebells and sandbag onto the floor. They can be picked up directly from the sled to begin the return process.
-Kettlebells and sandbag may be unloaded in any order
-Both kettlebells must be carried at the same time in farmer carry fashion
-Sandbag individually
-Each element must be placed pass the starting line.
-No staging equipment forward
Finish Standard
-All equipment must be past the start and end lines
-Sled must be completely empty
-To finish athlete must run and fully cross the far/end line
-Time stops when athlete’s torso crosses the line
COMMON FAULTS
-Not fully crossing distance lines
-Dragging sandbag
-Carrying kettlebells in an invalid position
-Moving sled before full load
-Leaving equipment out of place
-Not emptying sled before finish
-Cutting lane or interfering with another athlete

EVENT 2 — BAR TAKEOVER
FORMAT

Individual event
Total working time: 3 minutes, 30 seconds
Total rest: 1 minute 30 seconds
Score = total reps across all stations
EVENT FLOW
The athlete will roll and load barbells through four stations in sequence. Each station has a fixed work interval followed by a 30-second rest to advance to the next bar.
Station 1 — Power Cleans, 1 minute of maximum repetitions
- 30 seconds to load and move barbell forward pass next start line
Station 2 — Front Squats, 1 minute of maximum repetitions
- 30 seconds to load and move barbell forward pass next start line
Station 3 — Overhead Press, 1 minute of maximum repetitions
- 30 seconds to load and move barbell forward pass next start line
Station 4 — Clean and Press, 30 seconds of maximum repetitions
MOVEMENT STANDARDS
Power Clean
-Bar starts on the ground
-Bar must be lifted to the shoulders with or without contact at the thighs
-No hanging position to start allowed
-Bar must be received in the front rack position
-Athlete must stand to full extension (hips and knees locked)
-Touch-and-go reps are allowed
Modified Standard for: Cub, Masters, Juniors
-Athlete may perform: Power clean, Hang clean, or Muscle clean
-Catch does not need to be perfect front rack
-Must stand to full extension (hips and knees locked)

-Bar must start in the front rack position
-Hip crease must pass below the top of the knee at the bottom
-Athlete must stand to full extension at the top
-Elbows must remain infront of the bar
Modified Standard for: Cub, Masters, Juniors

-Squat depth: Hip crease at or slightly above knee is acceptable
-Athlete must stand to full extension
-Elbows do not need to stay infront of the bar at all times

-Bar can be pressed overhead in any style: push press, power jerk, split jerk or strict press allowed.
-Athlete must stand to full extension with elbows locked with
Hips and knees fully extended

-Bar starts at shoulders
-Bar can be pressed overhead in any style: push press, power jerk, split jerk or strict press allowed.
-Hips and knees fully extended, elbows as straight as possible
-Bar overhead with control

-Athlete must: Clean the bar to shoulders, Then press overhead to full lockout
-Bar can be pressed overhead in any style: push press, power jerk, split jerk or strict press allowed.
-Athlete must return to recovery positon with feet next to each other, if split jerk is used, and stand to full extension with elbows locked with. Hips and knees fully extended
-Bar must return to the ground between reps
-Full lockout required at the top of each rep
Modified Standard for: Cub, Masters, Juniors
-First rep must start from the ground
-Athlete must: Clean the bar to shoulders, or front of chest,Then press overhead to full lockout.
-Bar can be pressed overhead in any style: push press, power jerk, split jerk or strict press allowed. Full lockout required overhead at hip and knee, elbows as extended as possible.
-Athlete must return to recovery positon with feet next to each other, if split jerk is used.
TRANSITION STANDARDS
-The clock does not stop. Athlete must load and move barbell forward to the next start line during each rest period of 30 seconds or use rep time to set up for new movement.
-Athlete must fully secure the plates with clamps before starting new movement.
-Judge will signal start and stop for each interval
-Athlete must pass barbell and stand pass the start line of each station before beginning reps.
SCORING
-Total number of completed repetitions across all stations
-Partial reps do not count
-Tie break (if needed): reps completed in final station
COMMON FAULTS
Not reaching full extension at top of lifts
Not meeting depth in front squat
Failing to bring bar from ground on clean and press
Starting the reps outside the starting line of the station
Not passing barbell to new start line at each station

Each station has plates ready to be loaded
Failure to secure plates propertly with clamp may result in athletes having to adjust weights during the event

EVENT 3: THE GAUNTLET

EVENT FLOW
Start:
Athlete seated on the ground, feet forward, infront of the rope attached to a loaded sled.
Hands must be OFF the rope. On “GO”: Athlete begins to pull sled
Work: Athletes begin seated and complete a 50-meters rope pull, bringing the sled fully past the start line before moving to 15 deadlifts. They then perform a 50-meter burpee broad jump to the far side, followed by 30 wall balls. After finishing, athletes complete another 50-meters seated rope pull to return the sled to its original position, then perform a second set of 30 wall balls. From there, they burpee broad jump 50 meters back to the start line and finish the event with 15 deadlifts.

-Must clearly show forward progress on each jump
-Athlete must jump forward with both feet leaving together. If jump forward is not completed, athlete must repeat from that spot.

-Step back (no jump to plank required)
-Chest to ground still required
-Small forward jump (controlled, not max distance)

-Ball must start from the bottom position (below chin)
-Athlete must squat below parallel:Hip crease below knee
-From the bottom, the athlete must stand to full extension and throw the ball straight upward with a clear release above the head.
-Must catch ball and return to full squat position for next rep
Modified Standard for: Cub, Masters ONLY
-Ball must start from chest in squat position
-Athlete must squat as low as possible, and keep the inital depth throughout the exercise.
-From lowest squat posible, the athlete must stand to full extension and throw the ball straight upward with a clear release above the head.
-Must catch ball and return to full squat position for next rep
