About This Competition

!! Update!!

Registration will close Sunday March 19 at midnight!

This is a week sooner than originally planned.

Lets go!

April 1st & 2nd, 2023

The Central Valley Throwdown hosted by Prima Wawona is back again.  This is the Central Valley's premier CrossFit competition. Teams of 4 (2 men & 2 women) will compete on Saturday followed by Individuals competing on Sunday.  That means you can compete both days if you're up for the challenge.  Compete on a team Saturday then come back and compete as an Individual on Sunday.  We have Scaled, Masters, and RX divisions so there is a place for everyone to join in and compete.

The Central Valley Throwdown is the main attraction of the Reedley Chamber of Commerce Health & Fitness Expo that will be running the entire weekend.  There will be vendors, informational booths, food vendors, and a whole bunch of health and fitness activities going on at the venue.

The venue is Prima Wawona fruit packing facility in Reedley.  It has a large 38,000 square foot covered area where most of the competition will take place. The Health and Fitness Expo will be next to the competition area so there will be plenty of things to see and do.

We have set aside space to create an athlete camping area just a short walk from the venue.  Bring your trailer, tent, or RV and camp out with other athletes and families.

The Central Valley Throwdown will run rain or shine.  There will be no refunds for this event.  Substitutions can be made for team members.

History of the CVT

The Central Valley Throwdown began as a vision from our late friend Veronica Morillo. In 2014 Veronica brought together our community like it never had been to hold the first CVT at the Visalia Convention Center. We were proud to have hundreds of Athletes compete for the day. MCs Kiki D & Bill Grundler (in his wheelchair) were there at our first CVT.

During preparation for the CVT 2015 Veronica passed away. We then decided to partner w/ Paul Castaneda and the Frogman Challenge to hold the CVT 2015 as a swim event at the Lindsay Swim Complex. Veronica's background was in swimming. She always wanted to bring a swim event to CVT, she had a plan to connect the Mt Whitney High School pool to the CVT in 2015 before she passed.

For the next 3 years, 2016-2018 Tanya Pennington & Tiffany Christmas Craddock took over running the CVT and brought it to the Tulare Ag Expo Center.

Then from 2019 to 2021 the CVT did not have a home. After the pandemic we felt it appropriate to bring it back.

Scott, Mike, & Matthew have been a part of the CVT from the beginning and continue to be our Directors.

Last year Prima Wawona plant in Reedley gave us their 30,000 sq/ft covered facility to use as our main competition floor, we will return there this year!

We learned a lot from last years event. Athlete, spectator, and vendor suggestions were all heard and we have made significant changes to our facility, and programming.  Expect to see exciting programming changes (swimming pool) and smoother running event.

Judging was one area that has been addressed.  We aim for consistency, and accuracy for all of our judges and this year we think we have found a great team that will ensure a fair and consistent competition.

In addition to our big podium prize package similar to last year will be our $20,000+ prize purse for all Masters & RX division podium finishers.

The mission of the CVT as set forth by our Founder, Veronica is to:
BRING OUR COMMUNITY TOGETHER FOR A WEEKEND OF FITNESS COMPETITION
