The Big Bend Strength Games: January | Bench Press and Clean & Jerk
About This Competition
Starting January 1st, you'll have the opportunity to compete in the first ever TikTok strength competition!
Each month will have a new event with two lifts contested! Prizes will be given out AT RANDOM each month thanks to our sponsors, and the top 5 athletes with the most points across the year in each division will be invited to compete in the grand finale in December for a CASH PRIZE!
All video submissions MUST BE posted to TikTok AND submitted here for them to count, and must use the hashtag #bigbendstrengthgames2022 AND tag @bigbendstrength in the caption.
Finally, The January Event Is...
The Bench Press 1RM and Clean & Jerk 1RM!
There is no pause on the bench press, no rule about the butt or head coming off the bench, no rule about heaving, and no rule about grip width or arch in back. Just pick up some heavy weight!
There is no pressout rule, there just must be an attempt to get under the bar by rebending the knees at a minimum. split jerk, push jerk, power jerk, squat jerk are all allowed, a strict or push press is not (that may be a later event?!?)

Workouts
Event 1 Lift 2:
Bench Press 1RM
The lifter will start with the bar on a rack, and may have a spotter lift the bar off. The lifter must then stop to show control before initating the downward motion of the bar.
The bar must make contact with the chest before pressing the bar back up.
Once the bar has been locked out and the lifter stops at the top to show control, the lift is complete and may then rack the bar.
There is NO pause required, and the lifter only needs to keep their shoulders on the bench and their feet on the ground or on risers or the bench feet. The lifter does NOT need to keep their butt or head in contact with the bench, and their is NO rule about heaving the bar.
Arch as much as youd like, and use as wide of a grip as you'd like. Wrist wraps, belts, and elbows sleeves are allowed BUT bench shirts/slingshots are not permitted.
Event 1 Lift 1: Clean and Jerk 1RM
Athletes will perform a 1RM Clean and Jerk to find the heaviest possible weight.
The clean may be a power, full, split, or muscle clean. The clean pust be one smooth movement with no change of direction. This means that a hang clean or pause clean is not allowed. The barbell must come to a full stop before initiating the jerk.
The jerk may be push, power, split, or squat, and the athlete must return the feet back under the hips before dropping the bar in front of them. There is NO pressout rule, however there must be an attempt to re-dip under the bar. A push press or strict/shoulder/military press is not allowed.
