6. MOVEMENT STANDARDS
- The rules relating to the movements for the qualifier and finals are prescribed by TnR. These prescriptions are binding and conclusive.
- TnR will demonstrate the required movements and explain these to all teams via their website and Competition Corner.
- If an athlete has a disability and therefore cannot perform or continue with a standard movement as prescribed by TnR, the movement does not count as a repetition in the workout (and will be considered as a “no rep”).
- Physical limitations in Range of Motion from prior physical defects or temporary or permanent injuries that are obvious and clearly definable by demonstration and are brought to the attention of the TnR Head judge prior to the beginning of the competition may be granted an exception at TnR sole discretion. (Athletes competing at the qualifier must email to info@toughandrough.ch 24 hours before the registration deadline). These cases are very rare and will be handled on a case-by-case basis.

- Repeating the workouts is permitted, all workouts can be done on different days and in any order.
- Teams are advised to perform all workouts with a judge.
- Teams have to submit a video of their workouts by entering their scores in competition corner.
8. SCORE AND VIDEO SUBMISSION RULES
- Teams who wish to qualify for and compete at the finals of TOUGH’N‘ROUGH must upload a video link along with the workout score submission, whether they train in an affiliate or not. We will evaluate your video if your score is potentially in the top rankings of each division and workout. The TnR team reserves the right to correct the scores if needed.
Make sure your video is valid! Our recommendations to do so:
- Use an app with an integrated timer to record your workouts, such as "wodproof" or "wetime"
- Read the workout flow and movement standards carefully and make sure you fully understand them
- We recommend the use of a judge. Judging is not just counting reps. It is your judge's responsibility to inform you if you do not meet the movement standards and no-rep you
- Take into account that we might review your videos
- Upload the video on YouTube, Vimeo or to a similar platform. Whichever works best for you. Do not forget to set your video public when you publish it
- Be aware of copyrights on music in the background. It is possible that you will not be able to publish a video or that is blocked after your upload
- All videos must be uncut and unedited
- At the beginning of each video specify your team name, the workout you are doing, the equipment and the weights used during the workout (by showing them in the video). It is your responsibility to position the camera correctly. This means: timer, athletes, equipment and movement must be clearly visible. Also, it has to be possible to evaluate if the movement standards have been met.
- We will be extremely rigorous in reviewing the videos and we expect athletes to uphold the highest standards in performing movements. There are four possible outcomes in the judging and scoring of online video submissions:
Good Video: The athlete meets the required movement standards on all repetitions in the workout, and the score they posted is correct. Their score will be accepted.
Valid with Minor Penalty: Over the course of the video, the athlete demonstrates a small number of “no-reps” (not more than or equal to 5% of the total rep count) that resulted in a faster time or higher score for a given workout. A minor penalty will be applied, and a score adjustment will be made of the athlete’s final score. If the score is posted in the form of a time, the total time to complete the workout will be adjusted accordingly. A minor penalty can be applied to more than one movement per workout, resulting in a greater score adjustment.
Valid with Major Penalty: Over the course of the video, the athlete demonstrates a significant number of “no-reps” (all above 5% and lower or equal to 20% of the total rep count) that resulted in a faster time or higher score for a given workout. In this case, a major penalty will be applied, and the score may be modified by subtracting 15% from the total rep count. If the score is posted in the form of a time, the total time to complete the workout will be adjusted accordingly. A major penalty can be applied to more than one movement per workout, resulting in a greater score adjustment.
Invalid: Over the course of the video, the athlete fails to complete the workout as required, a significant and unacceptable number of reps performed are “no-reps” or the video does not contain the criteria listed in the video submission standards. The athlete’s and team’s score will be rejected. The athlete will have to submit a new video prior to the score submission deadline to receive a score for this workout. It is the athlete’s responsibility to submit a new video and score as soon as possible. No late submissions will be accepted.
9. INVITATION PROCESS
- Teams on the top of the leaderboard will receive an invitation for the finals.
- In case of a tie, the team with the lowest ranking on any of the qualifier workouts will be invited.
- If a Team declines their invite or does not accept the invite within the deadline, the invite is cancelled. TnR will invite the next team from the qualifier ranking in that division.
10. THE FINALS
- The final will take place on September 24 and 25, 2022.
- It is a two-day event, for all teams and categories.
- All teams will complete multiple workouts and be tested in various skills. No cut is foreseen, but TnR will reserve the right to do so. TnR will inform about this at an early stage.
- The final workout will be contested only by the best teams of the weekend in each division.
- The venue for the finals is the Athletik Zentrum in St. Gallen. Some events may also take place elsewhere.
- The scores at the finals will be registered by TnR Judges. The Judges will determine the workout results but are entitled to change a result after irregularities.
- Photo or video material made by spectators or other participants does not have to be taken into account in case of a dispute and may be neglected by the judges.
- In case of a dispute the judge is always right unless the head judge decides otherwise.
- TnR assumes no liability for lost clothing or other belongings of athletes. This also applies to personal possessions which have been left in TnR changing facilities.
- The team must follow the instructions given by TnR Organization, or TnR staff in TnR uniform, or otherwise apparently belonging to TnR Organization.
- TnR has the right to disqualify a team or athlete and/or pull him or her out of TnR if the Team does not abide by the rules, or behaves in an unsportsmanlike or improper manner, or of it is considered necessary due to medical reasons. In such a case, the entire team will be taken out of the finals.
- Athletes are expected to not cause damage to the property of others and leave no waste.
- Any regulations not covered here will be displayed at TnR final field and must be abided by.
11. RANKING
- Teams will be ranked after each workout.
- In the qualifier, points are awarded based on the team’s placement = lowest points wins
- In the finals, points are awarded based on the team’s placement = highest points wins
12. CANCELLATION POLICY
- TnR Organization may cancel the finals (hereinafter “Cancel”), or on the day of the finals withdraw (“Withdraw”) them. TnR may Cancel or Withdraw TnR if there are unforeseen circumstances and/or force majeure, which includes (but is not limited to) (expected) extreme weather conditions, pandemic, epidemic, computer virus, bugs, worms, tampering, unauthorized intervention. It is unilaterally decided by TnR what constitutes extreme weather or a force majeure. It is the responsibility of TnR Organization to determine when the risk of accidents or dangerous situations are increased due to extreme weather conditions or force majeure. The decision of TnR to Cancel or Withdraw TnR in the event of such conditions is undisputable.
- In the case of a withdraw or cancel, costs incurred by the team for participating in the finals, including the costs of the ticket are non-refundable.
13. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS
- All intellectual property rights and material made by the camera crew of TnR (both photos and film material) is property of TnR.
- Photographers or cameramen who do not belong to the camera crew of TnR and which have not received explicit permission from TnR, shall not be permitted on the competition floor. TnR is entitled to send these people away.
- Teams taking part in the finals or located on the site of TnR automatically agree to waive their portrait rights and other intellectual property rights for images of video created during TnR.
14. CHANGES
- TnR will update the rulebook each year and make changes as necessary. After the start of the registration phase, the rulebook will not be adjusted until the end of the finals.
- In case where the rulebook, workout descriptions or other communications is unclear, TnR always has the final word.
