Pyromania 6
About This Competition
Pyromania 6, individuals (scaled and Rx), Friday August 19th and Saturday August 20th
This year, we're teaming up with the Canadian Mental Health Association - Calgary Region (CMHA Calgary) to create awareness about mental health and how to get help for you or somebody you know. All profits will go directly to the association. Plus, we will be able to take donations on site and provide information about the programs.
Pyromania is and has always been about the community, fun, challenging, and inclusive event. There will be a live leaderboard (competition corner) and judges to make it a fair competition, but really, this is more about getting together, challenging ourselves and supporting the cause. Casual to experienced athletes will be challenged and tested, you won't be disappointed by the workouts. Our goal with the workouts is to offer something different than your average workout at the box. We always strive for something similar to the CrossFit Games but for all of us. Obviously, using loads and movements for common mortals. CrossFit is about functional and general fitness, be ready for the unknown and the unknowable. This is why every year, we get out of our way to do stuff like the worms, rent external venues like the pools, get special equipment like the zeus/drag ropes, obstacle walls, keg carries, peg boards and so on. This year is no different, we start with a swimming workout at the Highwood outdoor pool followed by 2nd part in the park right after. 2 scored events for Friday night then we go to Pyro on Saturday for 3 more workouts. 5 scored events total. We have 2 divisions, scaled and Rx, We don't like to call it that so we called it fitness (scaled) and Firebreathers (Rx). We want both of our divisions to be accessible, even for non-crossfitters. That said, expect the Firebreathers division to be a bit more challenging, the loads and some of the movements will be altered for more experienced athletes. The workouts will have a similar intent found in the Open. For example, a workout might start with easier movements and as you get deeper into it, will get more challenging and allow more advanced athletes to put their skills to the test. Ultimately, only the fittest will get there. This is where testing our workouts becomes crucial. Trying to find the right loading, times, rep scheme and so on. This year is going to be special as we're doing all this for mental health and providing awareness on the subject. Your registration covers the pool rental, tshirt, snacks for the 2nd day, and again, all profits go directly to the Canadian Mental Health Association - Calgary.
If competing is not your thing, don't worry about your scores or placing on the leaderboard, what matters is that you sign up, support the cause, have fun and be part of the community.
