Proving Grounds UK same sex pairs
About This Competition
Proving Grounds UK is a same sex pair fitness competition.
Online qualifiers will be released on Monday 1st of August and need to be completed by midnight, Sunday 13th of August 2023.
The top teams from each category will qualify to go onto the finals held on the 21st and 22nd of October 2023 at the SEC Glasgow.
Day 1 (Saturday 21st of Oct) will see our Everyday athletes take the competition floor.
Day 2 (Sunday 22nd of Oct) will see our RX and master athletes take the competition floor.
The number of qualifying teams will be subject to change.
Athletes wishing to spectate on the day they aren't competing will need to purchase a spectator ticket.
Category selection guideline
Everyday Athlete
Designed for those who enjoy CrossFit style training however may struggle with some of the more high-skill and technical movements such as Handstands, Muscle-Ups, and Full Snatches. The workouts will be high intensity with effective exercises that will get your heart rate up fast. Think Box Jumps, Erg Work and DB Snatches. There will still be a small amount of gymnastic work such as Pull-Ups and Toes To Bar but only one member of the team needs to be efficient at these movements.
If you love competition but aren’t quite ready to hit the RX category yet, then this category is for you.
RX Athlete
This division is for the competitive athlete who is able to perform ALL the usual CrossFit movements, as well as be prepared for the unknown. There will be a broader test of fitness in this category ranging from weightlifting to gymnastics and conditioning. You can expect a higher level of skill and movement demand such as Muscle Ups, Handstands, Full Snatches. Ideally one of the pair will be efficient in most CrossFit movements.
Masters (Combined age 75+)
This category is designed for any athletes who meet the age requirements of 35+years on the date of competition with the teams combined age of +75 years. You can expect the Masters category to be similar to the RX competition with some slight adjustments to weight and movement choice. You should train CrossFit predominantly and have the ability as a team, to complete some mid to high skill gymnastics and weightlifting movements - like chest to bar pull ups and snatches.
Video submission – Scoring Protocol
Please ensure you have completed the workout correctly and upheld the movements to the highest possible standards.
There are four possible outcomes in the judging and scoring of the video submissions:
• Good Video: The athletes meet the required movement standards on all repetitions in the workout, and the score they posted is correct. Their score will be accepted.
• Valid with Minor Penalty: Over the course of the video, the athletes demonstrate a small number of “no-reps” that may be removed from their final score as required. If the score is posted in the form of a time, the total time to complete the workout will be adjusted accordingly.
• Valid with Major Penalty: Over the course of the video, the athletes demonstrate a large number of “no-reps.” In this case, the score may be modified by subtracting 15 percent from the total rep count. If the score is posted in the form of a time, the total time to complete the workout will be adjusted accordingly.
• Invalid: Over the course of the video, the athletes fail to complete the workout as required, a significant and unacceptable number of reps performed are “no-reps” or the video does not contain the criteria listed in the video submission standards. The teams score will be rejected.
Partner Substitution - An athlete can be changed at any point up until the qualifier deadline. Both partners must complete ALL qualifiers. After this there may be no substitutes under any circumstances.

For the RX category the team will complete the

This workout is FOR TIME or TOTAL REPS COMPLETED within the 25 MINUTE TIME CAP.
Unless stated as SYNCHRO the reps can be split anyway.

For the RX category the team will work through the following:
60 Pull ups
60 Dumbell thrusters x 22.5 (x2) / 15kg (x2)
50 Chest to bar pull ups
50 Dumbell thrusters x 30 (x2) / 22.5kg (x2)
STARTING ON ZERO AND EVERY 2 MINUTES THEREAFTER COMPLETE:
16 SYNCHRO Box jump overs 24 / 20inch
The box jumps must be completed by both athletes, the rest of the workout can be split anyway the team likes with only one athlete working at a time.
This workout is for time and has a 16 minute time cap. If the workout is not completed within the time cap then your score will be total reps complete, excluding the box jump overs.

1 SHOULDER TO OVERHEAD
ALL CATEGORIES WILL COMPLETE THE SAME COMPLEX.
THIS WORKOUT IS PERFORMED INDIVIDUALLY AND IS SCORED BY COMBINING EACH ATHLETE’S HEAVIEST SUCCESSFUL COMPLEX.
THE ATHLETES COMBINED TIME TO COMPLETE THE SKI ERG WILL BE USED AS A TIEBREAKER.

The RX and Master category will perform:
9 – 15 – 21 reps of Power snatch and Bar Facing Burpees.
The RX category will use 45kg for males and 32.5kg for females.
The Masters category will use 35kg for the males and 25kg for females.
The Everyday category will perform:
9 – 15 – 21 reps of Power Cleans and Bar Facing Burpees.
The weight for the power clean is 35kg for males and 25kg for females.
