About This Competition

1st Annual “Top of the Box” Competition at Ergon

Caught the “post-Open” bug to compete again? We invite all to join us as we go big and heavy with this one! We are excited to bring you a balanced competition for individuals that will include true tests of mental grit, physical endurance, and pure strength. Scaled divisions (Female and Male) will compete on Saturday, June 15th, and Rx and Masters (40+) will compete on Sunday, June 16th. (Approximately 7:30-6pm both days). Available slots: 30 Scaled Female, 30 Scaled Male, 20 Rx Female, 20 Rx Male, 10 Masters Female, & 10 Masters Male. CASH & physical prizes will be awarded for 1st through 3rd place in each respective division.

Cost: $20 for the Online Qualifier. $60 if you make it into the onsite competition, (onsite includes T-shirt).

Online Qualifier (April 15th-27th)

Three workouts will be released online on the 14th of April. Athletes will have from April 15th through April 27th to complete all three workouts and submit corresponding videos. Anyone who wishes to compete in June, must video themselves completing the workouts and submit them NO LATER than April 27th. Movements and video standards for submissions will be posted. All videos and a $20 qualifier entry fee per individual must be submitted online before 12pm CST on April 27th. After April 27th, qualifiers will be ranked based on their three workout scores against all other qualifiers in their respective division, and the top placements will receive invitations to compete during the main onsite competition the weekend of June 15/16. All qualifiers are then responsible for paying the remaining $60 entry fee for the competition on or before 3 May 2019. If you choose to pass your invitation, or fail to pay the final submission fee by 3 May, that spot will go to the next qualifying athlete in the corresponding division.

Barbell: Man 45lbs, Woman 35lbs

Video Submission Standard:

All video submissions should be uncut and unedited
in order to accurately display the performance. After the workout is finished, clearly show the weight of the
barbell and the plates of the last succesfully completed lift. The athlete must declare the total weight before each attempt. A timer with the running workout time should be clearly visible throughout the entire workout. Do not restart the clock between part A and B of this workout. Shoot the video from an angle so all movements can be clearly seen meeting the movement standards. Videos shot with a fisheye lens or similar lens may be rejected due to the visual distortion these lenses cause. 

Notes:

This part of the workout begin as soon as the clock reaches 4:00 min. The athlete have the next 6:00 min of elapsed time to perform their Snatch attempts.

Movement standards:

Snatch:

The barbell begins on the ground and must be lifted overhead in one, unbroken motion. Power, squat and split snatches are all permitted. If you begin with an empty barbell, or a barbell that has plates smaller than standard bumper plates, each repetition must begin with the barbell clearly below the knees. The rep is credited when the barbell is at full lockout overhead, with the hips, knees and arms fully extended, and the bar directly over or slightly behind the middle of the body with the feet under the hips. Be sure to show control at the end of the rep (don't all victim of the early celebration!).
