Workouts

Event 2 of the 2023 Battle in the Valley is: “Axle Rows”

Event 2 is your floater workout. At the beginning of the workout, one athlete will be seated on the rower with legs fully extended. The other athlete will be standing tall behind the axle bar. The weight on the axle bar will be chosen by the team. Once the event begins, the weight on the bar cannot be changed.

At the call of 3,2,1, GO, the team will have 6 minutes to accumulate as many calories as possible on the rower and the total weight lifted on the axle bar deadlift. Teams can switch as often as they would like in the 6 minutes.

Touch-and-go or singles for deadlifts are allowed. If dropped from the top, the bar has to come back to complete rest before the next rep can be executed.

Your floater workout will have two scores. Total poundage lifted (weight x reps) and total calories rowed.

Event 1 of the 2023 Battle in the Valley is: “Where Da Weights At?

At the start of the event, both team members will be standing behind their empty barbells.

At the call of 3,2,1 GO the team will have 12 minutes to establish a two-rep max touch & go clean & jerk and a two-rep max touch and go snatch. The team will decide which member completes what lift.

Any full version of the clean and jerk is allowed and any version of the snatch is allowed. No hang cleans or snatches allowed. Complete control must me shown at the top of each rep. Team members may assist their partner in loading and adjusting weight up or down as desired. A minimum of 5-pound adjustments may be made. (2.5 on each side)

Once the first team member has reached their two rep max in their chosen lift, then the other member may load their bar and continue the process until time expires.

For example, if partner 1 uses 8 minutes to establish their 2 rep max, then their partner only has the remaining 4 minutes to hit their 2 rep max.

The athlete can rest and/or regrip at any point during the narural path of the lift. The bar cannot rest on the ground. As long as the bar breaks contact from the ground before time expires AND the complex is completed successfully, that lift will count.

Score is total weight lifted divided by total team body weight.
