About This Competition

LATEST UPDATE: The Qualifier Release has been delayed from March 26th to April 8th, to allow athletes some breathing space between the end of the worldwide Open and their next comp. The Asia Championships now officially kicks off on April 8th and will end on April 12th midnight.

Asia Championships is a yearly gathering of affiliates, designed to celebrate and support talent in the Asia region. We are a three-stage individual competition, which begins every year on the 1st of January.

ELIGIBILITY

Anyone can contend for the Championships title, as long as they complete the Qualifier within any of the following categories: 
  • Elite Men
  • Elite Women
  • Legacy Men (aged 35, and above)
  • Legacy Women (aged 35, and above)

AGE LIMITS AND CATEGORIES 

The Elite category is open to all athletes of all ages. The Legacy category is open to all athletes aged or turning 35 and above in the 2016 calendar year (Jan 1 - Dec 31, 2016). This means that the youngest person eligible to compete in the Legacy category would celebrate was born on Dec 31, 1981. Proof of age will be required upon acceptance to advance to Division, and can come in the form of any ID stating your date of birth.

Athletes aged 35 and above are welcome to compete in the Elite category, should they choose to do so. The workouts will not be scaled for their purpose, and athletes are liable to ensure their own safety in the competition in making the decision to compete in a separate category. 

PROOF OF RESIDENCY

Athletes must also provide proof of residency in order to accept the invitation to advance to the next few stages of the Championships. Proof of residency can be a utility bill, license, passport or any form of identification that identifies your residential address to your name.

This is the first of three stages of the Asia Championships. 

ONLINE WORKOUTS

A series of workouts will be released on April 8th, 2016. Upon which, athletes will be given a week to submit all scores. Registration for the qualifier will remain open until the very last day of score submission - April 12, 2016. 

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Please make sure all submissions have:
  • three final scores
  • two tie break times
Athletes are entitled to unlimited re-attempts for all workouts and may continually change their scores until the scoring window closes. 

Scoring window closes on 23:59 (Singapore Time, GMT+8) of April 12, 2016.

ADVANCEMENT

Top 32 individual athletes, and 16 masters' athletes from each Division will be invited to compete in one of four sanctioned tournaments. Based on your country of residence, you would fall within and compete in separate divisions.

The 2016 Divisions are as follows:

  • West: Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Indonesia, Vietnam 
  • Central: Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, Japan
  • North: Korea
  • East: Philippines, Guam 

All individual athletes competing the Pacific Regionals are granted exemption from the Divisional Tournaments, and gain direct advancement to the Asia Championships Grand Final.

Workouts

*Minimum acceptable kilogram equivalents are 85kg for Elite and Legacy Men, and 57kg for Elite and Legacy Women. 

When the clock hits 6:00, athletes will have up to 12:00 to complete a 1RM thruster at the heaviest weight possible. 

  • Athletes must load their own bars. 
  • There is no minimum start weight, and athletes can begin with the load used in Online Qualifier 1. 
  • Starting with a pre-loaded bar is not permitted. 

When the clock hits 12:00, athletes will have up to 18:00 to complete as much repetitions as possible of:

15 Overhead Squats (115 lb. / 75 lb.)*
20 Pull Ups
15 Overhead Squats (135 lb. / 95 lb.)*
20 Chest to Bar Pull Ups
15 Overhead Squats (155 lb. / 105 lb.)*

Then, as many bar muscle ups as possible in the remaining time.

*Kilogram minimal equivalents are:
75 lb. =  35kg 
95 lb. = 42kg
105 lb. = 48kg
115 lb. = 52kg
135 lb. = 62kg
155 lb. = 70kg

Score: Total reps completed in the 6 minutes. 
Tie-break time: The time on the clock when athlete completes 15 overhead squats at 155 lb. or 105 lb. (e.g. 16:30)
