2nd Annual BRUCK RUCK HERO CHARITY WOD
About This Competition
It's Back! Our 2nd Annual "BRUCK" HERO CHARITY WOD and this time we will be doing it individual RUCK style!
Description: U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Third Class (DC3) Nathan B. Bruckenthal, 24, of Smithtown, NY, was assigned to Tactical Law Enforcement Team South, Law Enforcement Detachment 403, based at Coast Guard Air Station Miami in Florida, and was KIA on April 24, 2004, at the Khawr Al Amaya Oil Terminal off the coast of Iraq when a boat that he and his team intercepted near the terminal exploded. He is survived by his wife Pattie, daughter Harper, born after his death, father Eric, mother Laurie Bullock, and sister Noabeth.
Nathan is the only Coast Guardsmen killed in combat since Vietnam, and his sister, Noabeth is an athlete at Ridgeback, so he holds an exceptionally special place in our hearts at CFR.

What is Rucking:
Rucking is a new take on an old form of exercise. It involves walking, jogging, shuffling, or hiking with any type of weighted backpack or carrier system. The extra weight challenges your endurance and strength over normal walking intensity!
Ruck Equipment:
Anything can be used to ruck in! Backpack, any official ruck bag or weight carrier system, vests, baby carriers, etc. or a combination. However, ALL ATHLETES MUST arrive with their own ruck equipment and already loaded for the weight in their chosen division! Weight can consist of dumbbells, sandbags, bladders, weighted plates, rocks, your kiddos, really anything that won't fall out, come lose, leak, etc.! As a CrossFit community we highly value the personal honesty policy of reps and loads integrity, never cheating the person next to you working just as hard! Weigh-ins will commence before athlete brief from 0715 to 0750am. Once ruck bag is weighed, it cannot be moved from your assigned heat stations. Water bladders are allowed, however cannot be used as a camelback for drinking water. Camelback type bags, if worn, are in addition to ruck weight. Athletes that use water bladders that leak or become punctured risk score forfeiture. Bags will be re-weighed again at finish line. A weight variance tolerance will be posted due to slight differences in scales.
Scoring:
Individual Total Time. WOD time (separate from ruck time) will be used for all tie breakers.
The Ruck course:
All athletes will be provided a map on their time/score cards. As soon as both rounds or BRUCK are complete (or time capped), Athlete will acquire their ruck from heat lane and start the 2 mile ruck. Athlete will follow start path from CrossFit Ridgeback to north on Holly St to 62nd Ave west, then south on Parkway Dr. around the Veteran's Memorial Park dropping down to 60th Ave. east then south on Holly St. to finish line! Athlete MUST KEEP THEIR SCORE CARD AND MAP WITH THEM during ruck by any means they chose not to allow "gear adrift" risking losing their score cards and times. There will be a water station at the 1 Mile mark of the ruck course.
Ultimate Goal:
HAVE FUN, Help Raise Money for an Exceptional Cause, and ENJOY THE GREAT OUTDOORS with a little friendly competition!
Times:
0715-0750: Ruck Bag Weigh-ins, Score Card Received (must have this for judge at your heat start - Don't lose this!)
0800: Athlete Briefing, center floor.
0820: Heat 1 Kicks off (Heats will be released the week of the competition).
Other Info:
Map of course, parking, athlete and vendor area will be released the week of the competition!
