Workouts

Athletes will use the outdoor one mile course especially designed for the WV Wellness Festival. Four athletes from each team will particapite in a relay, running 1 mile each, as fast a possible. **One of these athletes must be a female.

Athletes will use the Mylan Park Aquatic Center Competition Pool. Two athletes from each team will particapite in a relay, swimming 100 meters each, as fast a possible. Fins, wetsuits, or any other form of flotation or propulsion will be dissallowed. Goggles are recommended.

In the 3 Rep Max Deadlift competition athletes will have three attempts to lift their maximum weight in a deadlift. Proper form is required for a successful lift. The highest weight lifted will determine the winner.

**Weight belts are optional. No straps will be allowed.**

Two athletes from each team will participate. The score will be the total weight of the two participants. **One of these athletes must be a female.

In the 5K Row, athletes will use a Concept 2 rower to complete the 5K. The team may choose to break the row up however they would like. **A female must row at least 500 meters of the total row.

Before the athlete begins, set up the rower to accurately track distance:

  1. For the rower: Turn on the monitor by pressing any button
  2. Select Workout
  3. Select New Workout
  4. Select Distance
  5. Use the arrow keys to move the blinking digit to set the distance
  6. Use the plus or minus keys to increase or decrease the value
  7. Press the checkmark to begin rowing

In the 60-yard shuttle agility test, four athletes will sprint to and from multiple distances (5, 10, and 15 yards) in a shuttle format, touching the ground at each turn. This event will be done as a relay with athletes passing a baton between participants. The test measures speed, explosiveness, and change-of-direction skills. Each team gets two attempts, with the best time recorded.

Two athletes from each team will have one attempt to bench press the assigned weight for as many repetitions as possible (Men: 135#, Women: 95#). The head, shoulders, and buttocks must remain in contact with the bench and the feet flat on the floor. Each repetition must touch the chest and end with the arms in full lock-out extension.

The team score will be the total of both athletes repetitions. **One of these athletes must be a female.

Athletes will have three attempts to perform a standing broad jump as far as possible.  The athlete stands behind a line marked on the ground with feet slightly apart.  A two-foot take-off and landing is used, with the swinging of the arms and bending of the knees to provide forward drive.  The athlete attempts to jump as far as possible, landing on both feet without falling backward.  The score is the distance from the starting line to the back of the rear foot upon landing.

Four athletes from each team will participate. The score will be the total distance of the four participating athletes.

This is a "choose your own adventure" style workout.  Athletes will have three minutes to lift as much total weight as possible.  There will be 20 and 30-pound wall balls and 50, 100, and 150-pound sandbags.  The athlete may use their one minute to lift any combination of weights and repetitions to lift the most total weight possible.  A repetition will count when the weight is controlled and rests on the athlete's shoulder.  The athlete with the most total weight wins.

Example:
20#   -  3 reps  =  60lbs
30#   -  5 reps  =  150lbs
50#   -  2 reps  =  100lbs
100# -  1 rep    =  100lbs
150# -  1 rep    =  150lbs
Total score is:        560lbs

Object Tally Reps Total Weight
20# Wallball
30# Wallball
50# Sandbag
100# Sandbag
150# Sandbag
  Total Combined Weight:

Two athletes from each team must participate. The score will be the total weight for both athletes combined.

Athletes will begin in a dead hang from the pull-up bar and must use an overhand grip. (no chin-ups). The athlete will then perform as many pull-ups as possible before coming off of the bar. Each repetition must begin with the arms fully extended in a hang, and end with the chin clearly above the bar. Kipping and butterfly pull-ups will not be allowed.

2 athletes from each team must complete pull-ups. Score will be the total repititions from both athletes.
