Edwards AFB 412 MDG's Desert Showdown
About This Competition
Do you have what it takes to be the best warfighter in TEST? Create a Team of 4 and join us in a first responder centric obstacle course that challenges your mental and physical capabilities and showcases the warfighter's capabilities in a contested environment!
You and your team of 4 will compete against other first responders from across the 412 TW on a one-mile obstacle course that will test you in multiple domains of TCCC and Basic Life Support (BLS). Some of the physical and mental requirements needed to be successful in this competition are as follows:
- Knowledge of TCCC skills such at Care under fire (CUF), Tactical Field Care (TFC), tourniquet application, litter carries, and ability to call a nine line.
- Basic Life Support Knowledge (BLS) - how to perform compressions / CPR
- Teams of 4 should be able to physically carry a litter with a 165# dummy across rough terrain.
- Individual members of the team should be able to ruck with a 20# pack and/or 20# ammo cans farmer's carried.
- Teams of 4 should be able to overhead press a litter with a 165# dummy multiple times
- Individual members of the team should be able to climb over approximately 5 foot tall barricades.
- Individual member(s) of the team should be able to drag/carry a 135# dummy to cover.
- All members of the team should be able to complete short bursts of high intensity physical activity such as Fire hose drags or swinging a sledgehammer
Each team will compete for the best time across the one-mile course with a 30-minute time cap. Teams will be graded along several "checkpoints" that will judge them based on their knowledge and teamwork as a team. If a team cannot complete the challenge in the allotted 30 minutes, then their score will be based on the amounts of the checkpoints completed/ total score at each checkpoint.
Teams of 4 can be assembled any way team sees fit and can substitute a team member up until the day of the Event upon check in. no substitutions are allowed during the event.
Both civilian and Active-duty members are permitted if they are competent in the skills listed above. Throughout the course you will be allowed freedom to "choose your own adventure" with requirements at certain checkpoints for all team members to do a certain activity.
UOD will be OCPs if active duty with a minimum requirement of pants and boots /trail shoes due to uneven terrain and loose gravel in sections of the course. Teams may wear a squadron or team t-shirt with their OCP pants /boots if desired. Older uniforms are also allowed.

Workouts
Main course:
Members are unit on patrol to the first objective (top of the hill) and start by carrying a 20# medic pack and two 20# ammo cans. Once you reach the objective (checkpoint #1) you make contact with hostile forces and are espected to perfom care under fire for a Casualty and most perform the needed steps/ drag the casualty to cover.
From there you will proceed on the course where you will put your casualty on a provided litter and proceed down the course towards the next obstacle where you will need to climb two barricades and lift your patient over the barricades to arrive at checkpoint #2. You will be asked questions as a team about Tactical Feild Care/ MARCH assesments. Once the questions have been answered you will proceed to the next checkpoint while carrying your casualty.
Prior to entering the warehouse for Checkpoint #3 you will perform 10 Over the head presses with your litter/casualty. Once the Buy in is complete you can proceed to the checkpoint in which the scenario is that there is a possible threat in the warehouse that needs to be cleared. You will be expected to leave a member behind to take care of your casualty while the rest of the team elimates the threat.
Once checkpoint #3 is complete you will proceed down the paved path to checkpoint #4 where team members will work together as teams of two to complete:
2 members perform 1 hose drag down and back
2 members perform a tire flip down and back
Each team of two swaps and perfoms the other task
Teams can then prepare for Evac and call a 9 Line with the provided MIST report (Checkpoint #4)
Teams then will proceed through the field to reach the helipad to complete checkpoint #5 in which the scenario is that you are in a contested environment and do not have air superiority and your patient has coded. Perform 2 rounds of BLS CPR.
Once completed your causualty has now completed Evac and your can sprint to the finish line!
