BATTLE OF THE BEASTS 2024
About This Competition
Celebrating the beautiful town of Kaiapoi & our Community, Battle of the Beasts is our annual inter-house CAVE FITNESS male/female partner competition.
This is an all divisions comp - one podium. Please enter the division standard most suited to your team (If you normally Rx in class please enter Rx). We will adjust weights and standards according to workout and team ability.
Event 1: Friday 22nd November 6:30pm (location TBA)
Events 2 - 4: Saturday 23rd November 8am - 3pm (locations TBA)
For further guidelines refer to the following standards;
BOTH Athletes;
Dumbbells: Rx: 15/22.5kgs, Scaled: 10kgs/17.5kgs
Kettlebell: Rx: 16kgs/24kgs, Scaled: 12kgs/20kgs
Barbell: Rx: 35/50kgs, Scaled: 25/40kgs
ONE Athlete;
Rx: Bar Muscle ups, Scaled: Pull-ups

Workouts
Teams will commence this workout behind their log and team marker at the bottom of the Dune.
Once Heat begins both athletes will carry the log up and over the dune. Once over the Dune (on the other side) and with the log behind their team marker, teams will begin their 8 synchro over the log burpees.
The workout will continue in this format with Burpees being performed on either side of the dune after each Team's up and over with the log.
At the commencement of this workout Athletes with carry one of their teammates to and around a marker in the water. The athlete getting carried must not have their feet touch the ground at any time. Athletes can swap during the carry but must stop and re-start from swapping point.
Once teams have returned to their marker Athlete 1 will complete a full round of;
*15m Hs walk (7.5 metres to a marker and back. Bear crawlers will complete this length twice)
*20 Single Arm Dumbbell Snatches (behind their team marker)
*Run out to the water markers and back.
Athlete 1 will then tag their partner and Athlete 2 will begin their Hs walk/Bearcrawl.
This will continue until the team has complete 8 rounds (4 each, alternating rounds).
After completing their 8th round, teams will once again partner carry to the marker in the water and back to complete the workout.
This will be an Individual workout - with an individual from each team versing a competitor from an opposing team. The Teams score will be their combined time for the workout.
Athlete 1 will start behind their Assault bike.
At the commencement of the clock they will complete 8/12 cals then a 20m Sled push.
They will then perform from left to right 4 deadballs/sandbags to boxes (lifting the ball from the ground and placing it on top of the box for the rep to be completed bedore progressing to the next box)

ROW, KETTLEBELL SWINGS, BURPEES
Based on a NZL Masters Workout that gave our very own Uncle Ross PTSD, back by popular demand and many requests (from Uncle of course). ROW UNCLE DEAD will begin with both Athletes behind their rower, in their lane with one Judge each.
On commencement of the workout Athlete 1 will begin their 21 cals on the rower, once they have finished their cals they will move to the KBS and Athlete 2 will start their 21 cal Row. After each Athlete,s round of Burpees they will progress their (own) Kettle bell forward to the next station before going back to the Rower. Athlete 2 will be 'chasing' Athlete 1, and Teams will be versing 3 other teams simultaneously.
This is a lot of mahi in a short window of time so the goal is to accumulate as Many reps as possible if not to finish.
Let's finish with a bang fam!
Teams will begin this workout by the water, beside their canoe and Barbells in Raven Quay.
At the commencement tof this workout, Athlete 1 will begin a 2km run loop.
As soon as Athlete 1 returns the team will begin their 50 synchro Thrusters.
After finishing their 50 Synchro Thrusters, Teams will carry (NOT DRAG) their Canoe to the water and paddle to and around a buoy past the main Kaiapoi Bridge (Williams St).
Once teams have returned with their Canoe they will complete another 50 Synchro Barbell Thrusters, followed by one last 2km run loop performed by either athlete.
Once the running athlete has returning to the Teams working station the total time for the event is recorded.
This workout is an ascending 'I Go, You Go' ladder of Clean and Jerks and Pull-ups/Chest to bars/Muscle Ups

Any athlete can do any of the reps as long as only one person is working at a time.
For example one Athlete may do all the barbell, one may do all the rig:
Athlete 1: 3 Clean and Jerks (tag to swap)
Athlete 2: 3 Pull-ups (tag to swap)
Athlete 1:6 Clean and Jerks (tag to swap)
Athlete 2: 6 Pull-ups (tag to swap)
Teams can share reps however they want.
However, Athletes MUST tag hands to swap between working and resting.
