Workouts

The flag needs to be present during check-in but will be judged after Saturday’s opening.

Each Patrol should hand in a sheet upon check-in. Each patrol will be given 10 points even if your Song, Skit or cheer is not selected for the Saturday Camp Fire. Remember, no hand in = no points!

SPL’s are expected to provide their own ingredients, cooking utensils, and preparation items. Please have a typed or legibly written copy of the recipe with ingredients, preparation directions and cooking times available to the judges. It is important that all ingredients are included for judges that may have allergies or dietary restrictions.

Each SPL will also need to supply serving dishes (plates, bowls, cups, etc…) and utensils for the judges to sample their dish.

All preparation will be in the time period allotted, including cooking time. Ingredients may not be precooked or prepared for cooking prior to the beginning of the Dessert Cook-off.

Please bring your own equipment, including propane stove or Dutch oven.  No liquid fuels are permitted.

Once the cook off begins, the SPL will be the only one permitted in the cooking area.

Presentation:

The dessert should include appropriate garnish, serving size, and edible decoration. Extra decoration will not receive additional points

Taste:

The ideal dessert is one that tastes delicious. Contestants will be graded on the use of flavor, aroma, and chewing ability.

Technique:

Contestants will be judged on the showing of the proper use of cooking tools, heat source, and utensils. Contestants will also be judged on the proper use of proper fire starting and use.

Explain and clean up:

Explain and show the judges how to properly clean the equipment, utensils, and the cooking site after the dessert has been prepared and explain how you properly dispose of the dishwater and garbage. (According to the cooking merit badge requirement 5G)

Each unit is responsible for presenting a campsite that adheres to the principles taught in the Camping merit badge. These principles should be universal across the entire unit and managed by the SPL and leadership core.

The Camporee Gateway competition is conducted to inspire Scouts to use imagination, creativity and inventiveness in the spirit of teamwork and unit pride. This is a friendly competition. Gateways ways MUST be “Scout Built” with minimal adult intervention, and should be located at the entrance to the unit’s campsite. Gateways will be judged in the following criteria:

Construction:

  • Safety must be followed at all times. You may NOT use a ladder for assembly, this is a BSA Safety Rule. All construction materials shall be assembled in a safe and secure fashion without creating a tripping hazard.
  • You must build the Structure with natural wood which is found in nature, not store bought lumber such as 2x4’s you buy at a Home Depot.
  • Wood must be secured with twine or rope and properly lashed.
  • Digging holes on the field is not allowed.
  • No Tie-wraps shall be allowed.
  • Store bought decorations can be used for the gateway but they must be either affixed to the gateway with twine or placed around the gateway.

Imagination: This is your units chance to put their stamp on the gateway. The more imagination you put into your gateway the higher the score.

Visual Impact: No electrical equipment or batteries will be allowed in the Gateway display.

Required Items: American Flag, Unit Flags.

Judging will be based on the degree of quality and imagination your unit puts into their gateway. All judges are impartial.

On April XX there will be a Hammer & Saw work day at Pouch.

Those Troops that participate with at least 50% of their Troop for a 4 hour period will receive 50 points.

Please provide documentation from the Campmaster or Ranger. If you cannot attend the Hammer & Saw Day on April XX, please arrange time with the Ranger to do a different day of Service at Pouch.

All Service for Pouch must be completed prior to May X, 2020.
