ABOUT THE COMP: The Victory Grips Pit Teen Throwdown is an annual competition exclusively for athletes ages 14-22 held over Labor Day weekend in Southwest Michigan. In its fourth year in 2023, this thrilling competition - known to many as simply "The Pit" - will draw together some 200 athletes total Sept. 1-3 at The Pit Fitness Ranch, 14791 Hoffman Road, Three Rivers MI 49093. ABOUT THE OLQs: This Online Qualifier, held over a month in summer 2023, will yield 160 athletes ages 14-17 in both Junior Varsity and Varsity divisions. 14-15 Age Group (DOB between 9/1/2007 and 9/1/2009) 16-17 Age Group (DOB between 9/1/2005 and 9/1/2007) Forty (40) more athletes ages 18-22 (DOB between 9/1/2001 and 9/1/2005) may register for the Victory Grips The Pit Teen Throwdown starting June 1 - no qualifying necessary. First come, first compete. Note 18-22 here are listed as "LEAGUE" because we hope these athletes will do the OLQs for fun and/or testing and/or to see how they stack up against their September competition. Athletes ages 14-17 will have from June 1 to July 3 to complete the OLQ workouts (about 4-5 total). Submit scores as many times as you want over the month. Just make sure your last score submission is your best submission - and that you have some video proof. We encourage athletes to have some fun with the workouts and hope that the 4-week time frame allows for anyone who wants to to compete. After scores and videos are reviewed in mid-late-July, athletes 1-20 in each division (14-15, 16-17 both girls and boys) will be invited to compete in the Varsity division at The Pit Sept. 2-3. Athletes 21-40 will be invited to compete in the JV division Sept. 1. Athletes will have a limited time to accept invitations and register. We will backfill until all 160 spots are filled. MORE INFO ABOUT THE COMP: The Throwdown features the rugged diversity of our 65-acre fitness ranch, a former gravel pit with woods and water, sand and hills and our 10,000-SQ FT gym, Triple River CrossFit. The Victory Grips Pit Teen Throwdown offers divisions for three age groups and gives athletes the ability to compete against peers with similar skill and experience levels. Our Junior Varsity division will be presented with multiple tests on the opening day of the Throwdown. Programming is challenging and the energy is high. A great opportunity for many Athletes to hit new PR’s and achieve some “Firsts”! The Varsity division can expect advanced skills to be tested and big weights to be loaded. The Varsity events span from Saturday morning through Sunday afternoon. The intensity is REAL. The Collegiate division is reserved for our 18-22 year old Athletes who have “aged out” of CrossFit age groups. Events will span from Saturday morning through Sunday afternoon.

The rep must be completed in one fluid motion from the start of the clean to the lockout of the thruster. BAR FACING BURPEES Athletes must use a barbell with 18-inch plates. The burpees must be performed perpendicular to and facing the barbell. Athletes may jump or step back to reach the bottom position. The athlete’s head must stay behind the barbell. Both feet must be off the ground as the athlete passes over the bar. Stepping over is NOT permitted. The athlete does NOT need to use a two-foot takeoff. Touching the barbell on the jump or step-over is a “no rep.” The rep is credited when both feet have touched the ground on the opposite side of the barbell. There is no requirement to land with both feet at the same time. The athlete must be perpendicular to and facing the barbell before starting the next rep. Athletes may not receive assistance moving or resetting their barbell unless safety is an immediate concern. If the athlete receives a “no rep” for any reason, the entire rep must be repeated.
