Workouts
Athletes will use the state-of-the-art timing system in the pool to swim 100 meters as fast a possible. Fins, wetsuits, or any other form of flotation or propulsion will be dissallowed. Goggles are recommended.
Using a Concept 2 rower, each athlete will row 2000 meters for time. Fastest time wins.
This event will be completed during any of the "Open Competition" times between scheduled events.
Athletes will be placed into heats of 8 and will run 400m around the track. There will be a staggered start and participants will stay in their lane the whole lap. Track spikes are allowed but starting blocks will NOT be used. Athletes will be disqualified in the event of two false starts.
The fitness competition athletes will participate in the WV Wellness Festival 5k along with the other non-fitness-competition runners along the Mylan Park 5k Cross Country Course. The fitness competition athletes' scores will be separated from the rest, and then ranked (by gender) to determine the athlete's score. NOTE - the course may be altered slightly to allow for starting/ending near the track.
Athletes will have one attempt to perform the Illinois Agility Test. (more information HERE). The individual starts by lying face down by the first cone. Staring at cone 1 he is required to run to cone 2 which is placed at a distance of 10 meters away from the first. He then runs 10 meters to cone 3. At this point the individual has to weave around cones 3,4,5,6. After this he has to go through 5,4,3. He will then run to cone # 8. The time to complete the task is then recorded.
Athletes will have three minutes to move as quickly as possible to lift a series of Atlas stones to their shoulder. The stones will ascend in weight. The attempt begins with the stone at rest on the ground and ends with the stone resting on the athlete's shoulder showing complete control. The score will be the heaviest stone lifted with the tiebreaker being the time of the last successful lift.
Each athlete will have one attempt to bench press their respective weight for as many repetitions as possible. The head, shoulders, and buttocks must remain in contact with the bench and the feet flat on the floor. Each repetition must touch the chest and end with the arms in full lock-out extension.
Athletes will have three attempts to perform a standing broad jump as far as possible. The athlete stands behind a line marked on the ground with feet slightly apart. A two foot take-off and landing is used, with swinging of the arms and bending of the knees to provide forward drive. The subject attempts to jump as far as possible, landing on both feet without falling backwards. The score is the distance from the starting line to the back of the rear foot upon landing.
Athletes will have one attempt to carry the dumbells as far as possible without dropping them. The attempt begins with the dumbbells and athletes behind the starting line (two 100# DB for males, two 70#dumbells for females). The athlete will pick up the dumbells in a farmers carry position and walk (or run!) to a line 25' away. When both feet have crossed the line with the dumbells still in hand, that segment is complete. They will then continue back and forth for as long as possible. Partial segments will not count - only completed lengths of 25'. The score is total feet walked without dropping the weights. If the athlete cannot lift the weights, he or she will receive a score of 0 feet. Grips or wrist wraps are not allowed. Chalk and thumb/finger tape is allowed.
Athlete will begin in a dead hang from the pull-up bar and must use an overhand grip. (no chin-ups). The athlete will then perform as many pull-ups as possible before coming off of the bar. Each repetition must begin with the arms fully extended in a hang, and end with the chin clearly above the bar. Kipping and butterfly pull-ups will not be allowed.
