Battle For The Axe 2021
About This Competition
Throw down in start of summer for your team’s chance to be added to the Axe! A two-day competition with 3-4 events on Saturday and 1-2 events on Sunday hosted by CrossFit Grow in the Brainerd Lakes Area. Expect classic CrossFit-style WODs as well as at least one workout out in the elements–those who battle for the axe don’t mind the weather! Teams of two–M/M and F/F, both Rx and Scaled Divisions available. High skill movements not prioritized–this is a throwdown designed to test limits and make you sweat as well as building community, and having fun! Prize bags for podium winners in all four divisions–first place winners receive a hatchet among other prizes. Registration limited–find your partner, name your team and sign up now!
This competition will favor stamina and grit over brute strength. The weights and skills provided are only a recommendation per division and are not a complete list. Actual competition weights and skills may be modified.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
Minimum age to compete is 16yrs of age. Teams of two may be any age combination.

Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?
If one team member becomes unable to compete due to injury, etc, a replacement team member may be subbed for one of the original team members. After the 7-day refund policy no refunds will be issued for registration tickets already paid.

-Partners can switch on the wheelbarrow if needed, but only before or after a rep as been completed (5m).
-G2OH can be split up as desired.
-The non-working athlete may stand “at the ready” (no tag required to switch working athlete).
Sled Pull:
Sled will start behind the starting line.
Sled must be pulled beyond each 10m mark before advancing to the next movement.
Sled may be pulled walking forward or backward at the athlete’s discretion.
Final sled pull is complete when the sled completely crosses the starting line.
Partner Wheelbarrow Walk:
Partner 1 Hands must start behind the line and feet off the ground before advancing.
Feet must be held in the hands of Partner 2 walking behind Partner 1.
A rep is completed after the hands of Partner 1 have crossed the 5m line. If the athlete falls before then, it is a NO REP and must go back to the previous 5m mark.
Ground to Overhead (G2OH):
Rep begins with the plates touching the ground.
Rep is completed with plate overhead, locked out arms, and hips and legs fully extended.
Reps may be split between partners as desired.
Once all reps are completed, plate is carried to the sled to be added for the next sled pull.

This event will be scored by adding the rank of both events together.
Example: If Team A places first on the assault bike and fifth in the sprint, then their score for event three would be 6.
If the first event is completed under the time cap, the team will have 0:30 rest before starting the sprints.
After the rest, athlete 1 will complete each sprint before athlete 2 will complete their sprints.
Partner Run:
Log must be carried by both athletes. As long as both athletes are touching the log throughout the run, this is acceptable.
Log Squats:
Rep begins with both athletes standing and the log on their shoulders.
Athletes must get hips at or below the plane of the knees.
A rep is completed when both athletes stand with legs and hips extended at the same time.
Log Deadlifts:
To begin, athletes will stand on both ends of the log with hands underneath the log.
A rep is complete when both athletes have full hip extension at the top of the DL at the same time.
Between each rep, both ends of the log must touch the ground at the same time.
Synchro Log Jump Overs:
Lateral jumps over the log.
Athletes must jump together over the log using a 2 foot take-off.
Log Flips:
One athlete flips the log end over end to their partner.
This is repeated back and forth 25 times.

Row:
Rower handle must remain in the cradle until the sound of the start or the tag off of the athlete for the next round.
Farmer Carry:
Kettlebells must be picked up behind the start line.
Kettlebells are carried on both sides of the body.
At any point when the kettlebells are set down to rest, the athlete must pick them up from the same location before continuing the carry.
Kettlebell Shoulder To Overhead:
Each rep begins with kettlebells in the front rack position.
Rep is complete when the kettlebell is overhead with both the athlete’s legs and arms in full extension.
Strict Press, Push Press, or Push Jerk are all allowed.

Thruster:
Each rep must begin with the barbell held in the front rack position.
Rep is complete when the complex of a front squat and overhead press is performed.
In the squat, the hips must be at or below the knees.
In the overhead press, the arms must be fully extended with the body in full extension.
Full extension is not required when picking up the barbell off the ground. Athletes may start from the bottom of their squat so long as the barbell is in the front rack position.
Box Jump Overs:
Each jump must begin with a 2 foot take-off. A gallop step is a NO REP.
Both feet must touch the top of the box before jumping or stepping down from the top.
You DO NOT need to reach full hip extension on top of the box.
Box Facing or Lateral Box Jumps are both acceptable.
Bar Facing Burpees:
Rep starts standing facing the barbell.
Moving to the ground, athletes must jump their feet back. Scaled divisions may step back and step up.
Both chest and thighs must touch the ground. Just the stomach will result in a NO REP.
2 foot take-off must be used to jump over the bar.
Tripping or touching the bar as you jump over will result in a NO REP. Only the jump needs to be repeated.

Rep is complete when the chin has passed the plane of the bar.
Any form of pull-ups may be performed (Example: strict, kipping, butterfly, etc.).
Strict Ring Rows:
Each rep must begin with both heels touching the tape line (directly under rings), arms fully extended from rings, and body in plank position (no bend at the hips).
Rep is complete when rings have touched the body of the athlete while maintaining plank position.
Kipping or “breaking at the hips” is not allowed.
Drag Rope Double Unders:
Each rep begins with the rope behind the athlete.
Rep is complete when the athlete has jumped once and the rope has passed under the athlete’s feet twice.
Drag Rope Single Unders:
Each rep begins with the rope behind the athlete.
Rep is complete when the athlete has jumped once and the rope has passed under the athlete’s feet once.
