2021 Ripple Effect Team Lift-Off
About This Competition
THE RIPPLE EFFECT TEAM LIFT-OFF is back for a second year! This time around, our friends at Gifford Fitness are hosting the event in their newly expanded facility in New Brighton, MN.
If you like to lift, this one's for you! There are few things as fun as lifting big in front of a crowd. Test your Oly lifting skills in the snatch and clean & jerk, then push yourself in a fun partner workout suitable for all skill levels.
Registration opens Friday 6/18 at noon.
Teams of 2 (MM, FF, or MF), $120 per team.
Three events: 1RM snatch, 1RM clean & jerk, and a simple but challenging partner workout.
Each team will have four scores:
Team snatch total
Team clean & jerk total
Partner workout
Pound for pound score = total snatch + total clean & jerk divided by team bodyweight
To take the top spot on the podium you'll have to lift big, but also have some solid work capacity!
Since it's a team competition and the pound-for-pound score is added in, there are no weight classes for the competition. The metcon will also be doable for athletes of any skill level, so we are not dividing up into Rx/Scaled etc. You just find yourself a partner and sign up! It's a cool opportunity to team up with a partner you normally wouldn't be able to.

Workouts
Each partner will have 5 minutes to find their 1RM clean & jerk, with a 2 minute transition period between athletes. Partners may help each other change weights. The bar will start empty, and at the call of "Go" the team may begin loading the bar. The resting partner and all extra weights must be clear of the lifting area before a lift attempt is made. Athletes are allowed unlimited attempts during their 5 minute window.
The team's score will be each athlete's heaviest successful lift, added together.
1RM Snatch -- Team total
Each partner will have 5 minutes to find their 1RM snatch, with a 2 minute transition period between athletes. Partners may help each other change weights. The bar will start empty, and at the call of "Go" the team may begin loading the bar. The resting partner and all extra weights must be clear of the lifting area before a lift attempt is made. Athletes are allowed unlimited attempts during their 5 minute window.
The team's score will be each athlete's heaviest successful lift, added together.
For time, with a 12 minute time cap:
> 40/30 cal row (P1)/ 40/30cal bike erg (P2). Done simultaneously
> 30 lateral burpees over bar, switch partners any time
> 60 overhead squat (75/55lbs) while partner holds bar overhead. Switch any time
> 30 lateral burpees over bar, switch partners any time
> 40/30 cal row (P2)/ 40/30cal bike erg (P1). Done simultaneously
The workout begins with one partner on the rower and one on the bike erg. Both partners work until their required calories are completed (40 cals for men, 30 cals for women). Once both partners are done, they proceed to their bar area for the burpees. The partners will accumulate 30 lateral burpees over the bar, with one partner working while the other rests, switching any time (tag to switch). Once the 30 burpees are completed, both partners will get their bars overhead to begin the overhead squats. The partners must accumulate 60 overhead squat reps while the "resting" partner holds the bar overhead. They can switch working partners any time until 60 reps are completed. Once 60 reps have been reached, the team moves back to lateral burpees over the bar for another 30 reps, then returns to the rower & bike to finish their workout with a second set of 40/30 cals. Teams can choose to swap which partners uses which machine for the second round of bike/row if desired, or keep it the same as the first.
The team's score will be their final time. If the workout is not completed under the 12 minute time cap, the team score will be 12:00 plus one second for each rep left unfinished.
Pound For Pound Lifting Score
This score is the Team Total Snatch Weight, added to the Team Total C&J Weight, divided by the team's total combined bodyweight from the morning weigh-in.
This score takes the team's total bodyweight into account, to give a "pound for pound" lifting score. If two athletes lifted the same weight but one weighs less than the other, the lighter athlete would have a better score in this metric.
NOTE: Nobody's individual bodyweight will be published, anywhere. Only the pound for pound score will be visible on the scoring app.
