Welcome to Barbells & Butterflies!

We are thrilled you want attend our event!

Barbells & Butterflies (or B&B) is a family friendly fitness and recreation extravaganza!

This is Fitness For Freedom!

All proceeds go towards helping women and children affected by human trafficking. We’ve partnered with Project Rescue to make it happen!

Workouts

Max Load - Complex (Clean, Hang Clean)

6 minute cap

At 3-2-1-Go! Athletes will have 6 minutes to establish a max weight complex of 1 clean and 1 hang clean. Each team will start with an empty bar.  Athletes may choose to power or squat clean the bar. The bar may not pass the athlete’s knees while performing the hang clean. The bar must be off the ground when the 6 min clock expires for the lift to count.  Athletes are required to declare their weight to their judge. The athlete not lifting must remain outside of the designated lifting area. Clips must be on the bar in order to lift.  Each team's score will be the combined weight of both athletes' heaviest completed complexes.

Event 2a: “He’s Got The Whole World”

(Project Rescue is in 12 countries, 26 cities, and 3 continents)

At 3-2-1 Go! Athlete 1 will start with Bar Hops. Once Athlete 1 completes all Bar Hops, Athlete 2 completes all Ground to Overhead. Once Athlete 2 completes all Ground to Overhead, Athlete 1 completes all sit-ups. Athletes continue to rotate movements for 12 minutes. Athletes will then rest 3 minutes and then start event 2b. Athletes will have 5 minutes to complete as many rope climbs as possible. Athletes may split this portion as needed.

Teams will begin from the starting line under the rig and then proceed to their bar for the duration of part 1. During the rest, athletes can proceed to their rope and await the 3-2-1 Go! to start their rope climbs.

Advanced: 95/65

Intermediate: 75/55

Beginner: 25#/15# Plate, hopping empty barbell

Standards: Hops must be two feet take offs. Can be lateral or facing. No backwards jumping. GTOH can be snatch or clean and jerk. Either movement must be fully locked out. Sit ups must start with shoulder blades on the ground, sit up, shoulders must pass hip crease and hands touch athlete's feet.

Event 2b Standards:

Both athletes can attempt to climb the rope.

Advanced: Legless

Intermediate: Normal

Athletes must touch the rig for the climb to count.

Beginner: Zombie Climbs

Athletes will start laying on the ground and pull themselves to standing then lower themselves back down to laying. Feet must remain in the same position during the movement.

Event 3: “Row Row Row Your Boat”

800 Meter Tandem kayak, 2,000 Meter Concept 2 Bike, and 1,000 Meter Joint Run

25 minute time cap

At 3-2-1-GO! athletes will complete an 800 m tandem kayak with their partner. Life jackets are required to be worn for the kayaking portion of the event but can be removed once safely back on dry land. Athlete 1 will then complete 1,000 m on the Concept 2 bike erg followed by athlete 2 completing another 1,000 m on the Concept 2 bike erg for a total of 2,000 m. Athletes will then hold a short rope while completing a 1,000 m loop around the lake on foot. Athletes' scores will be the time it takes to complete the triathlon.

3 Rounds for Time

15 Synchro Toes to Bar (Freedom) knee raises (Rescue) sit-ups (Hope)

30 Wall Ball Shots to a 9.5 foot target with a 20/14lb ball (Freedom) 14/10lb ball (Rescue) 10/8lb ball (Hope)

15 Plate Hop Burpees (45 lb plate for all males 25 lb plate for all females)

Time Cap: 10 minutes

On 3-2-1-Go! both athletes will begin the Synchro Toes to Bar, Knee Raises, or Sit-Ups. After completing all 15 reps, then one athlete will start the Wall Ball Shots while the other athlete rests. Athletes may switch out whenever they want with one athlete working and the other athlete resting until all of the Wall Ball Shots and Plate Hop Burpees are completed. Then they will begin the next round.

Athletes will start behind the starting line behind the rig and will finish through the line opposite the rig. T2B is the only synchro movement in this event. Everything else can be split as needed.

Partner A & B complete:

12 Chest to bar pull-ups (Freedom) pull ups (Rescue) jumping pull ups (Hope)

12 Dumbell Snatches 70/50lb (Freedom) 50/35lb (Rescue) and 35/25lb (Hope)

Then partner A & B complete:

12 Deadlifts 225/155lb (Freedom) 185/105lb (Rescue) and 135/95lb (Hope)

12 Box Jump Overs (Freedom) Box Jump or Step Overs (Rescue & Hope) (24” for men & 20” for women)

Each partner will do 2 full rounds.

12 minute time cap

On 3-2-1-GO! Partner 1 will complete 12 pull-up variations and 12 Dumbell snatches. Partner 2 will then complete 12 pull-up variations and 12 Dumbell snatches. Partner 1 will then complete 12 deadlifts and 12 box jump or step overs. Partner 2 will then complete 12 deadlifts and 12 box jump or step overs. This repeats one more time all the way through for a total of two rounds. Athletes’ scores will be the time it takes to complete all 192 reps.

Event 6: “Wheels On The Bus”

7 Min AMRAP

Echo Bike Cals + Double Unders with Calf Rope for Freedom division - single unders for Rescue and Hope divisions

*1 Partner compiles cals while other compiles dubs. They can switch at any point and can switch as often as they would like.

On 3-2-1-Go! Both athletes will work at the same time. Partner 1 on the echo bike and Partner 2 on the double unders or single unders. Athletes may switch at any time. This event will have 2 scores: Total calories of echo bike and total double unders or single unders.

Event 6: “Wheels On The Bus”

7 Min AMRAP

On 3-2-1-Go! Athlete A will complete 250m on the row, then both athletes will complete 21 synchro front squats.  Athlete B will complete 250m row, then both will complete 18 synchro clean and jerks.  Athlete A will row 250m meters then both athletes will complete 15 synchro power snatches.  Athlete B will row 250m and then both athletes will complete 12 synchro thrusters. Athletes’ scores will be the total time it takes to complete the designated workload.
