About This Competition
Welcome to Dark Horse Rowing X Throwdowns!
We are thrilled you want attend our FREE online event. Information regarding the competition date, workouts and divisions can all be found on our landing page. From here, you can also register & view leaderboards.
This is a FREE competition in the spirit of community and providing those that wish to be involved with an opportunity to do something for the next 4 weeks of uncertainty.
So with that being said here are a few 'rules' for the "competition".
- This is a FREE event in the spirit of community and doing something for the next 4 weeks.
- There are NO prizes on offer and we're leaving it up to you to be honest with your submissions.
- You have 2 weight categories available to choose from LWT or HWT. No we're not going to ask you to prove this so please don't email us pics of scales - just be honest.
- Each week will have 3 workouts all released on the Monday at 01:00am PST, and to be submitted by 23.59hrs PST on that weeks Friday.
- You can retry each as many times in the day as you wish, but only ONE SUBMISSION will count.
- Photos and videos as proof of score are optional. Again this is a free competition so we trust you to be honest with your submissions.
- Workouts will be no longer than 30mins in length (so no marathon rows). We want this to be something to enjoy not turn you off rowing for the future.

Workouts
Event 1. TEN MIN BUILD
Yep, you read it right!! We're taking our signature warm up, and making it a workout!!
Here's what to do:
Set your monitor for Intervals time --> 1:00 work --> 0:00 rest
Row as follows:
- Min 1: 16spm
- Min 2: 17spm
- Min 3: 18spm
- Min 4: 19spm
- Min 5: 20spm
- Min 6: 22spm
- Min 7: 24spm
- Min 8: 26spm
- Min 9: 28spm
- Min 10: 30spm
- Score is the total distance rowed in the 10 mins work.
- Damper / drag factor - your choice.
EVENT 2: the sum of the parts, is greater than the whole
Row for MAX distance:
50 strokes legs only (Hold arms extended and body in position - No rocking backwards and forwards).
50 strokes arms only (Keep legs extended and body in position - No rocking backwards and forwards).
50 strokes arms and body only (Keep legs extended).
100 strokes full stroke
- Must be done as a single effort.
- No rest between each part.
- Use the 'Just Row' function on your PM and record the total distance covered in the time taken to complete all 4 parts of this event.
- Your score is your total meters once the flywheel has stopped spinning after your 100th full stroke.
Event 3. 3 x 5 = ???
3 rds of 5 mins with a 2 min rest in between each.
- Accumulate as many meters as possible in the 15 mins.
- Meters rowed during rest times DO NOT count.
- Set monitor as Intervals Time --> 5:00 mins --> 2:00 rest.
- Open stroke rate across all times. (Your choice)
- If you are not working on a Concept 2 machine accumulate as many meters as possible and total at the end.
