About This Competition

SHIFT provides a new accessible weightlifting format where participants register within a weighted ‘bracket’ and then lift within their 30-second 'shift'.

Competition Format

Tempo

The SHIFT uses a tempo format where lifting windows are more dynamic and the competition follows a master clock. This keeps the competition condensed and entertaining.

Layout

The SHIFT uses two platforms: a male platform and a female platform. A warm-up area is provided for athletes to warm up each lift appropriately. Once the Bracket begins, athletes will sit in the magazine, or ‘Mag', directly next to the platform. The athlete only leaves the magazine to lift and then returns to their designated chair.

Brackets

There are 5 brackets (divisions) for both males and females. There are four lifters within a bracket. Each bracket contains three predetermined weights. Each bracket contains both lifts, the snatch and clean + jerk.

Choosing a Bracket:

Bracket 1: This bracket is ideal for intermediate athletes to express their potential.

Bracket 2: This bracket is ideal for proficient lifters who are able to express their current strength level (RX CrossFit athletes should feel comfortable in this bracket as well as intermediate Weightlifters).

Bracket 3: This bracket is ideal for more elite lifters.

Bracket 4: This is the heaviest bracket and is ideal for semi-pro athletes.

Shifts

The 'shift' is the lifting window in which an athlete can perform their lift. The lift must be completed by the end of the 30-second window, and multiple attempts may be made during this timeframe. Shifts are staggered male and female, which allows 3 minutes and 30 seconds of recovery time between each athlete's personal shift.

Eg. Male 1 Shift 00:00 - 00:30 Female 1 Shift 00:30 - 01:00

Weigh-In

There are no predetermined weight categories. Athletes are instead required to weigh in for scoring purposes. The bracket you sign up for is not dependent on your weight. Weigh-in takes place 12 minutes before the athlete bracket commences.

Judging

Athletes require 2 out of 3 judges validation of a successful lift for their lift to count.

Scoring & Awards

Scoring within a SHIFT is determined by the athlete's Sinclair score. Athletes will have the opportunity to hit three weights within their bracket. It is not necessarily the expectation that the athlete will hit all three weights. Athletes may choose a bracket in which they can only hit one of the listed weights. The athlete's highest successful weight is then Sinclaired with their ‘weigh-in’ weight to give a final score. Prizes and placements are determined by the athlete's Sinclair score. The overall highest Sinclair will receive the overall top prize. First place, second place, and third place in each gender will then receive corresponding prizes. Individual bracket winners who did not place within the podium will receive an athlete bundle.

Competition Flow & Timing

Master Clock

The master clock will begin and run for the duration of the snatch and will be reset during the intermission. Should a stoppage need to take place, the master clock will be stopped, and the event will be resumed post-stoppage.

General Time References

Brackets run for approximately 12 minutes and 30 seconds.
Shifts run in a staggered 30-second format.
Weigh in, Mag Assignment: 12 minutes before bracket and Mag loading.
