SOUTHERN RIVALS | THE SQUADS WEEKENDER
 

You asked for it so here it is…THE SQUADS competition is BACK for 2025 with an exciting new format! If you liked our previous Squads event, you are going to LOVE what we have in store for you. Imagine a 2-day competition like no other combining a mix of functional fitness workouts using kit you are familiar with, alongside some more unfamiliar events such as open water swimming and a woodland trail run! (Don’t worry, not every team member has to do the water events). Not only are we extending this competition to 2 days, we are also providing teams the opportunity to purchase our onsite camping package which includes pre-setup tent accommodation in a village format, use of toilet/ shower facilities AND full catering meaning you don’t even need to leave the site if you don’t want to!

 

 Join us on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th May 2025 for this unique mixed teams of 6 (3 male, 3 female) competition by CrossFit Southampton. There’s no RX or scaled, the event caters for all abilities with just a handful of minimum ability requirements per team. We will be heading back to Fairthorne Manor, a huge 90-Acre site on the South Coast nestled amongst woodland on the River Hamble. Located just off the M27 between Hedge End and Botley in Southampton. The top 3 teams at the end of the weekend will win some huge cash prizes of up to £2500 depending on the number of teams entered. First place will receive a minimum of £750. 

 

Accessible to all abilities, this flagship mixed teams event will feature 6 events over the course of the weekend.  There will be 4 functional workouts using kit you’re familiar with, whilst the other 2 will be a paddleboard agility event (for 2 team members) while the other 4 complete our woodland trail run, and a final swim relay (for 2 team members) with the other 4 completing an on land finisher. The final 3 teams on each day will win some huge cash prizes and stash from our event partners!

Refreshments including top quality speciality coffee from our in-house coffee shop ‘Coffee Box’, energy drinks and snacks will be available on the day as well as breakfast and lunch from our catering partners.

 

Workout demos and movement standards will be announced online in the weeks leading up to the competition.

Entry is £120 per person and can be purchased using the link below and 3 stage payments are available - places are very limited! No need to give your team names just yet, we’ll be in touch nearer the time.

Minimum standards/ability

We’re regularly praised for our event accessibility whilst still ensuring a challenging and fun day. There’s no RX or scaled with this competition, we just ask that as a guide, any 2 of your 6 team members can do the following:

Double Unders
Are confident swimming in open water
Deadlift 100kg/70kg
GTOH – 70kg/45kg
Not all team members need to be able to do these, for example if 2 team members can do pull ups but cannot GTOH 70/45KG, but 2 others can, this is fine.

These are an example of the types of movements and weights you’d need to be able to perform, not a guarantee they will all appear!

 

Camping info

Camping will take place on the Friday evening and Saturday evening in partnership with our venue who will supply pre-setup 6-man tents, mats and a firepit – just bring your sleeping bag!

Catering will include Friday dinner, Saturday breakfast, Saturday Dinner and Sunday breakfast. Onsite facilities include warm shower blocks and changing rooms, as well as toilet and water supply. 

The catered camping option is £75 per person for the weekend which includes the above food, tent and firepit.

Team entry – no catered camping £720 (£120 per person)

Deposit of £300 (£50pp) when you register

Second payment of £210 (£35 each) 2 months after the first payment

Final payment of £210 (£35 each) 2 months after the second payment

 

Team entry – WITH catered camping £1170 (£195 per person which is £120 per person for the competition and £75 for the catered camping)

Deposit of £600 (£100pp) when you register

Second payment of £285 (£47.50 each) 2 months after the first payment

Final payment of £285 (£47.50 each) 2 months after the second payment

Time Cap - 40 Minutes

 

Teams can send whoever they choose out on each 1600m lap as long as the required number of athletes are running/in holding. If an athlete sits out a 1600m lap (after the initial 1600m where all team members must run) they are still eligible to perform a lap later in the workout.

Time Cap - 20 Minutes

 

Once an athlete begins their chosen transition they can not switch out or let another athlete make an attempt in that round, and must complete their designated distance. Once teams return for the second and third rounds teams can make a change at this point for which athlete performs which transition. But again the same rule applies that once an athlete starts they must finish.

4 athletes will work on the worm and dumbbells with the remaining 2 resting. Teams can switch athletes in and out as often or as little as they choose on both movements and there is no minimum work requirement. Teams will have 4 dumbbells of varying loads that must all be used no matter which athletes are performing the reps. Any athlete can use any dumbbell.

Teams can switch the 2 athletes accumulating reps as often as they choose and any athlete can use any deadlift load. For 2 athletes to continue accumulating reps, 2 athletes must always be holding their sandbags in position. Any athlete can hold any sandbag and teams can switch these athletes as often as they choose.

Teams can switch the athlete rowing at any time and as often as they wish. The same rule applies here with accumulating distance as it does with the reps through the chipper, with 2 athletes having to hold the sandbags in position for distance to be counted.

Teams can switch the 2 athletes accumulating reps as often as they choose and any athlete can use any deadlift load. For 2 athletes to continue accumulating reps, 2 athletes must always be holding their sandbags in position. Any athlete can hold any sandbag and teams can switch these athletes as often as they choose.
