Byers Face-Off 2021
About This Competition
Building on the success and populatrity of our inaugural Face-Off in 2020, in 2021 we are expanding!
This year we will have online qualifiers - 3 workouts per week for 2 weeks plus one workout that spans across both weeks. Top ranked competitors will be invited to compete at an In Person Final on September 11.
We have both RX and Intermediate divisions. Please see below for requirements and standards to select your best option.
The first 3 workouts will be released at 6am August 2nd, and will need to be submitted by 9pm AEST on August 9th. The second 3 workouts will be released 6am August 10th, with scores to be submitted by 9pm AEDT August 16th.
The In Person Final will be hosted at Byers Functional Fitness on September 11, with more details to be provided closer to the event.

Workouts
The athlete will start with an empty barbell.
On the sound of 3-2-1 go the athlete will complete a max clean and jerk for weight. At the conclusion of eight minutes the athlete will perform a max snatch for weight. At the conclusion of 16 minutes the athlete will complete a max squat clean for weight. The athlete may change weights before time is completed in each round, but may not lift until that round is complete. Score is total weight moved.
0-8min Clean & Jerk

Score is total of max weight of each movement added together
200m Swim or wade for time.
If you are unable to access a pool, you may run 1500m (around an oval preferably, but must be outdoors) for time. This will be the 'scaled' version, and will score lower than completing the swim, however provides an alternative for if you are not able to use a pool.
On the sound of 3-2-1 go athletes will perform as many pullups in the first minute and as many toes to bar in the second minute alternating for 12 minutes, for a total of six rounds of pullups and six rounds of toes to bar. At the completion of the six round of toes the bar the athlete will jump on an assault bike for three minutes of maximum calories. Score will be total pullups toes to bar and (whole) calories combined.

On the sound of 3-2-1 go athletes will commence the first round of 10 deadlifts and then 15 handstand push-ups. Round 2 the athlete will commence the second set of deadlifts and second handstand push-ups. In round 3 the athlete will complete 10 more deadlifts and 15 final handstand push-ups. Athletes may have a judge increase their weight (or may have three bars set up prior to commencing the workout). The total time to complete this work out is your score, or reps completed within the time cap.
Please see attached video for movement standards. Intermediate athletes may use 3 ab mats under their head for HSPU.
There is a 12 minute time cap for this work out.
On the sound of 3-2-1 go the athlete will perform five devil press into 10 front rack lunges on the spot and 15 double unders. This is a 15 minute AMRAP and your total score is total reps completed.
On the sound of 3-2-1 the athlete will row 1600m (may begin seated on rower). At the completion of the row the athlete will perform five rounds of 10 pullups 20 push-ups and 30 squats. On the completion of the fifth round the athlete will jump back on the rower for a further 1600m. Upon completion of 1600m row a further five rounds of 10 pullups 20 push-ups and 30 squats will be completed. On the completion of the first round the athlete will again jump back on the rower for a final 1600m.
Total time taken to complete this work out will be your score or reps completed if timed out. If time capped, each 100m on the rower = 1 rep. Make sure you record your time for your first 1600m row to enter as your tiebreaker score.
There is a 70 minute time cap For this work out
On the sound of 3-2-1 go the athlete must complete 13 thrusters into 26 wall ball shots into 19 Burpee is over bar. The athlete will complete this for three rounds for time with a 10 minute time cap. If the athlete does not complete the three rounds in the time the score will be number of reps completed.
