About This Competition

ABOUT THE COMPETITION

Each week for 4 weeks, a rowing workout for the Concept 2 Erg will be announced. You’ll have 4 days to complete the workout and submit your score online with a picture of your monitor. At the end of 4 weeks we will crown the Kings & Queens of the rowers.

Cash prizes are awarded to the top 3 male & female rowers in the Open Division for the Standard & Tall Categories. The winning Team receives a new Concept 2 Rower (or Bike or Ski Erg). 2nd & 3rd place teams receive cash prizes.

ROW'D ROYALTY HISTORY

Row’d Royalty was born in 2012 in California. Several athletes in my gym claimed to be the “best rower" and were always eager to prove themselves. So, I created "Row'd Royalty", an annual indoor rowing competition spanning 4 weeks and a variety of workouts with the winner crowned "The King & Queen of the Rower".

Row'd Royalty was a huge hit with everyone in my gym, so in 2015, I moved the competition online and introduced Row’d Royalty to the world. Concept 2 joined us as our premiere sponsor and our registration exploded. Today, indoor rowers from around the world participate, including former Olympic Rowing Medalists, Crash B winners and top athletes.

WHY WE ARE UNIQUE: TALL & STANDARD

In my 13 years of indoor rowing and coaching, I have learned that the biggest difference in an athlete's performance on a Concept 2 erg is height, which primarily affects the length of the pull. In order to make our competition more inclusive AND more competitive, we created the "Standard" and "Tall" categories.
  • Standard (Women under 5′ 6″ / Men under 5′ 11″)
  • Tall (Women 5′ 6″ and above / Men 5′ 11″ and above)
Similarly, in 1974 the International Rowing Federation (FISA) added a "Lightweight" class to rowing "to encourage more universality in the sport especially among nations with less statuesque people."

ATHLETE RULES AND REGULATIONS:
  • Damper can be set anywhere for all workouts.
  • Rolling starts are ok.
  • You can complete the workout as many times as you want during the designated time frame.
  • Workouts are announced Thursdays at 5:00pm PST and scores must be submitted by Mondays at 6:00pm PST.
  • Once the score submission period has closed, no workouts may be entered. No exceptions.

Proof of Performance: Please take a photo of your score FROM the memory section of your monitor. You should upload the photo along with your score, but it is not required. Those at the top of the leaderboard NEED to upload their photo when submitting all results because we may ask you to submit it for proof of performance at a later date. We are not asking for video submissions for the workouts, but we will require top athletes to send in a video of them doing a workout at the end of the competition.

All athletes must submit their scores by the specified times for each workout. Please avoid technology issues by submitting scores well before the deadline. Scores must be submitted online through the proper software. Emailed scores, Facebook comments, or anything else will NOT count. You may redo the workout as many times as you want before the deadline. If you redo the workout, you must submit the new score, which you can do by logging in to update your score.

Video Requirements: A video is not required for everyone, but If you place at the top of the leaderboard we may require you to video a workout to submit it.
  • State name and division competing in
  • Show monitor screen (zoom in) starting at zero
  • Camera must face monitor and athlete rowing the duration of the row
  • Show monitor screen (zoom in) at completion of row with your score
  • Show the memory screens last workout and your interval splits
At the end of the 4 weeks we may require the Open Division winners to submit a separate video with your height being measuring with a tape measure to confirm correct division.
